My maiden name was Bearn and I have lots of information about the Bearn family from Brechin. My late father was Benjamin Smith Bearn born  03.30.a.m.15th June 1890 Viewbank Cottage, Park Road Brechin father James Bearn and Mother Annie Buchanan Bearn nee Walker .
I have been researching the bearn family name since 1976 and have got a direct line back to about 1725ish
regards Mrs Jackie Walder nee Bearn Kent England
Let me know who you want to know about .

Anne, which Bowman line are you researching?

My father's family (quite a few of them actually) came from Kirriemuir to Adelaide in 1849.

jobarnes,

Just looked at the dates on this thread and I think it might be up to us now to continue.  It's been a long time since the original post.

My Bowman line came from Kirriemuir and there are mentions of Cortachy and Clova as well.

Which Bowman line are you chasing?  My John Bowman was the son of John Bowman and Agnes Eaton and his first wife was Barbara Tosh, second wife Betty (or Betsy) Duncan.

Seems to me that it was not an uncommon name in Scotland, but I might be wrong.

Would love to hear from you if you think there are any chances of a connection.

Haven't seen a mention of Dunfermline with my Bowman family, but that is not to say it's not still hiding from me.

One thing I've learned with this crazy hobby is that absolutely anything can happen and it's best to always half expect the unexpected!!! ;D

Thanks for the contact.
