Was there any protocol regarding sponsors for a child ? age, married, etc.

I was sponsor for my sister at age thirteen, which the priest agreed to, with my 18 y.o.
aunt as the other sponsor.   1960's U.S.

I have been told that to be a sponsor at a Roman Catholic baptism you must have received Confirmation, however if you were confirmed as a child (due to illness etc.) you must also have reached the age of reason which is not set as far as I'm aware but taken as 12
