Hi all,
All oponions welcome on what the occupation is for this lady from her marriage cert from 1856.
Occupation: __________ maker - maybe quilt??? ???
and her mother's maiden name, I thought maybe thompson or thornberry ??? just not sure.
thank you :)
-
I think maybe 'Thorburn' (decd).
vv.
-
thank you V. it's difficult to know :) or maybe thornbury ?
-
Inst Maker, i.e. Instrument Maker.
Stan

maybe thornbury ?
Not really sure, but I don't see it ending in 'y', the only writing going below the line is what
looks like a bracket before 'decd'.
Is the image from Scotlands People? I've heard that they will try and improve an image for
you when something is unclear.

I think Quilt Maker
and
Thorburn
:)

My tuppence worth....Thornbury.
-
thank you, VV, Stan, Geoff & Hepburn for your help.
I think I will add Thornbury to my tree and see if any thing turns up. If nothing does I will contact SP and see if they can make the image any clearer.
appreciate all your input. :) :)

I would say Thorburn, there is no y. The line is the first bracket of (dec).
Possibly Dressmaker?
-
thank you Jusnoneed, you could be right about the n instead of a y. I will have to wait and see.
I did originally assume it was dressmaker, but when I put my glasses on I wasn't so sure. :) I am still none the weiser. But dressmaker would probable make more sense..
Thank you for your input. appreciate it. It's funny what a fresh set of eyes can see ;D

My immediate reaction was also for Dressmaker and Thorburn -- but after a second look, I wouldn't be surprised if occupation turned out to be Quilt Maker.
-
The thing that made me think it's not Quilt is when you look at all the other letters with lines in eg l/t/h they are written quite clear and long. The supposed l and t in this word are not written like that. Hope that makes sense!

I am pretty sure it's Dress maker and Thorburn :)
