I am also researching in the Cupar area.  While I don't have the people you mention, I do have the surnames Brunton and Lumsden.  Possibly a link?

Hello, I can help. My Grandmother, Isabella Brunton was born 1872, the family home was in Chance Inn, a tiny hamlet in Ceres parish. Her father was William Brunton, born 1838 and mother Janet Matheson, Born St. Andrews 1843, Died Anstruther at her Daughter Barbara's in 1933. Her father was James Matheson, born in the Black Isle, Ross and Cromarty 1810. He was married to Barbara Lumsden, Strathkinnes, born about 1823, died chance Inn, Ceres 1907. The 1851 census gives them back crofting in the Black Isle for a time. There's a lot more, but that gives the Brunton/ Lumsden connection.
