Title: Coventry Butts Stadium Groundsmen
Post by: Stalbridge on Thursday 31 January 13 16:06 GMT (UK)
References to this stadium are few and far between. I have exhausted most of my lines of enquiry. I began by looking for photographs (Coventry Archives at the Herbert) and do have just one, an aerial view. Does anyone have any photos which show the buildings on site (1935-1955)? During this period, my grandfather (surname Healey) was groundsman and I know he sometimes was in photographs with teams that trained at The Butts. Any relevant leads would be appreciated. I have already contacted Godiva Harriers.

Hello Stalbridge,
Can't help you myself but there are very knowledgable and friendly people on...

Might well be worth you registering and making contact about this and your British restaurant posting on the same site (I mean The Butts site!)

My brother ran for Godiva in the late 1950s and I also played there in a Cup Final (Football) about the same period but I cannot remember any building except vaguely low huts as changing rooms. The Coventry Rugby Club now play there so maybe they can give you more information.

Have checked with my brother and he confirmed my thoughts, he said conditions were quite primitive with a cinder track and an old wooden hut for changing rooms, nothing else at all.
He was a member from 1954 to 1961. He cannot remember a groundsman.
