Can you give us a little more info. Why do you think they may be in Essex? Did they have any children? What is the source of this info?

When googling, found this  http://www.familytreecircles.com/looking-for-amelia-boland-16719.html

If this is correct the death record gives her parents names as William and Ann.

Hi
I think this information came from the death certiface,if they were married in 1846 i believe they would have been born in 1825, and the place of birth as Epping Stratford Essex, The Husband  was born also about 1825 but in Grimstead, They were married in India in 1846 but have no record of this ,i only know of one son born in India in 1855 with the same name as the father Henry James
Harper, after India they went yo Australia.

If Amelia was in India as a young woman, perhaps her father was in the military.

Boland (from looking at English censuses) is often an Irish name.

There is this record of a military William Boland born c1801:

https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/V5HR-W2H

which can be viewed by searching here:

http://www.findmypast.co.uk/army-service-records-search.action

A poster on another thread has kindly passed on the info that until tomorrow (Feb 2, credits good until April), there is a 40 free credits offer at FindMyPast that you could use to view that record if you don't otherwise have access there:

http://www.findmypast.co.uk/content/offers/tv-offer

Very likely Henry James Harper was also in the military, but his name is more common.

Unless the death record states the deceased's ages, or there is other info somewhere about ages, I wouldn't just assume that they were born in 1825, i.e. 21 when they married. That's a pretty big leap.

Indeed, I too was wondering how you could conclude a 1825 birth in Essex from a 1846 marriage in India!

Hi,
I have just come across this posting and thought that I might have some relevant information. Amelia Boland and Henry James Harper are my Great Great Grandparents. I (and a couple of other people) have been trying for several years to find out who their parents were.
From Amelia Boland's death certificate it would appear that she had been born in Stratford, Essex, England. She was 39 years old when she died in Ballarat, Vict., Australia on 15 October, 1858, having been in Australia for 10 years. Now on to Henry James Harper, from his death certificate it would appear that he was born in London, England. He was 63 years old when he died in Stawell, Vict., Australia on October 14, 1876 having been in Victoria for 25 years (he had spent some time in Sydney) His occupation was given as 'Sailor'/ 'Mariner' /'Innkeeper'
Maybe someone else out there can add something to this story.

Hello and welcome to Rootschat.

Does Amelias death certificate mention anything about her parents as in the Australia death index it says they are William and Ann.

Hello suffolk*sue,
In the space for ' name and surname of Father etc' is written 'unknown'. The informant was a 'house Steward' at the Ballarat Hospital where she died.
