Hi,
I am searching for a person I know who lived in Canada, she was born in Friesland, the Netherlands in 1918 (so won't put her name).
I know she was alive in Canada in 1984, and that she travelled to the Netherlands in 1979. There is also another relative (a cousin of this lady) who I know went to Canada and I know has died.
I know in the US there is the SSDI and in the UK there are registration details available online. What avenues exist to try and find out what happened to this individual?
Thank you for any help.

Thanks for the welcome, it's great so far!

It's my pleasure, if you are stuck on anything, there are lots of people on here, with a vast array of experience on most subjects, who are only too willing to help.

Hi,
We don't have anything comparable to the US SSDI or the Free BMD. Our Provinces deal with BMD registrations and each has its own privacy laws. As a rule, you won't be able to find any publicly available death registrations for anyone who died as recently as the 1980s. The exception is British Columbia.

I understand that Ancestry has recently added Canadian voters lists up to 1980... If your local library has the free Ancestry Library Edition, you can check that database. This could help to pinpoint the person's location.
If you know the town or province where this person lived, that can help us point you to resources like cemetery transcripts (if they exist), newspapers (for obits), city directories, local libraries etc.
Welcome to Rootschat :),

if a person is born in Friesland, you find all the records on www.allefriezen.nl (also available in english)
