Title: Carlisle Cemetery
Post by: Kress on Monday 28 January 13 06:50 GMT (UK)
John Smith died 3rd March 1890 at the Market in Carlisle He is buried at Carlisle Cemetery 6th March in Ward Section 1 Number 23. I believe there is a headstone and other people are buried with him. Would like a photo and details of what is written on the headstone. Any help will be much appreciated as I live too far away.  regards Kress

There is a person who will photograph stones (for a fee) http://www.carlisleshistory.co.uk

Looking at his/her index, it looks as if there is a stone but, as no other SMITH has the same reference number, John SMITH may well be "alone". :)

Sorry, I forgot the "S" link http://www.carlisleshistory.co.uk/page16.htm

Hi Kress

Before someone here makes a potentially wasted visit, have you contacted the cemetery office to establish whether there is still or was a headstone and do you know who else is in the plot?

http://www.carlisle.gov.uk/advice_and_benefits/deaths,_funerals__cremations/historical_searches.aspx

As you have the exact date of burial, a search should be straightforward, and their records should contain that information.

If the other people in the plot aren't related to him, it could be a common plot in which case, there is little chance of there being a family headstone.

Please let us know what they say.

Dawn

I have just received a photo of the headstonen and details, I am so grateful, although it is causing more problems as it looks like Johns wife has remarried.     Kress
