I agree, it's either boot or boat - where was the chap whose occupation this is, look at the other occupations on the page and it should help confirm which of the two it is  :)

First reaction was Boatman. I have several as ancestors. But, I hope he lived near the sea or a large river.  ???

This was in response to a lookup Ken did for me.  The chap concerned appears on BMD certificates and other censuses as cordwainer or boot and shoe maker, so I presume in this instance (1841), it stood for bootmaker.
