Title: THOMPSON Birth lookup IoW
Post by: poppets on Sunday 27 January 13 15:53 GMT (UK)
Hi,

I'm looking for a birth record for an Emma Thompson/Thomson born c.1835 possibly in Ventnor, Isle of Wight. Her parents were Joseph Thompson/Thomson (possibly working as a Bookbinder) and Charlotte Tyler.

Any information about Emma, her parents marriage, or the names of any other siblings would be greatly appreciated.

Regards
Casey

1841 census for Portsea - all b Hampshire

John Thompson 37 navy
Charlotte 34
Emma  7
Charlotte  5
HO107 Piece 413/5 Folio 48 Page 11

Just realised father was Joseph - the 1841 entry seems to belong t the 1830 marriage and Charlotte was nee Moody

There is no 1851 entry for an Emma Thompson/Thomson b Hampshire 1833-1837 and none with parents Joseph & Charlotte

possibly in Ventnor, Isle of Wight

There seems to be some uncertainty about her birthplace

Hi Casey,

What's the source for her parents' names and her father's occupation?  It might help to know.

Hi

Her parents' names and father's occupation come from her death certificate - Emma died in 1921 in Western Australia, aged 86. We know she arrived in South Australia sometime between 1854-1855 and married shortly after. She supposedly travelled to Australia wth an aunt, whose name I've never been able to discover, so it's possibly that both her parent's might have passed away when she was young.

Her death certificate says that she was born in London, but I've never been able to find a birth record, a marriage record for her parents or the family on any census records in the London area. The location of Ventnor comes from research done by some distant relatives, but I've no idea how they got that information.

Finding Emma and her parents has been very difficult.

Thanks for your help.

Casey
