Hi
I have the death certificate of one of my relatives who died in 1923. I have been told by other family members that she was a Sister of Mercy in Queensland. Does anyone know is this would be shown on her death certificate?
Hope someone has an answer.

Mollie do you actually have her death certificate or just the information from the online index?
Her occupation should be shown on the death certificate.

Thanks for your rely. I have her death certificate and it just gives her full name - no mention of her being a nun. I was surprised when a cousin told me that she was. I have also found her death notice on Trove digital newspaper site and it doesn't mention anything about being a Sister of Mercy. Again I thought this was not right. I was thinking of contacting the Sisters and see if they have a register. She may have entered the convent and left before she died. She was only 24 when she died in 1923, although not too many girls left the convent after they entered in those does. What do you think?

Hi Cando,
The death certificate says her occupation was home duties.

The information on a death cert is only as accurate as the knowledge of the informant. All sorts of possibilities Molie. Family stories can also be inaccurate ::) ;)
What was her name?

Hi Cando, Her name was Katherine Annie Greaves from Mt Morgan. The information on the death certificate was given by her brother who was a bank manager. Her mother died a couple of months before her and her father died a few years prior to that. I tend to think my cousin's story about the nun is incorrect.

She appears to be known to her family as Annie

Annie appears to be buried at a different location but memorialised on her parents' headstone

One record appears to be from the headstone and the second from the burial register. There is an obvious error with the year 1928 should be 1923.

GRAVES Katherine Annie Sunday 19 Aug 1923 Section I Row N Grave 24 Undertaker Cornes Roman Catholic Born North Rockhampton Note: Section 1 Occupation Home duties.
Her brother Christopher was a clerk at the time of her death. He moved frequently and still a bank clerk in 1936. He is noted as a bank manager much later on the electoral rolls.
Perhaps contact the convent at Mt Morgan.

It is also possible she worked at the convent.

Hi Cando
I am just amazed at how you have found this information. Thanks you so much. I had no idea these sites were available. I doubt that she was a Sister of Mercy but I will contact them just to verify my assumptions. Mother & daughter died 2 months apart, both suffered from melancholia. Mary died of cardiac failure and Annie's death certificate says she died of melancholia, starvation and cardiac failure. Family stories says she died of a broken heart. Thanks for all your help

Hi Gerry
I wonder if I could bother you again...... I still cannot find these records for the 1922 Electoral Roll. I am searching on Ancestry.com. Is there somewhere else I should be looking? It just amazes me how quickly other people can find these records and I puddle around for ages before finding anything!!
Thanks again

Hi Molie,
Some of the Electoral Rolls are not indexed by name, you have to "browse individual records" (left hand menu) and search for the images yourself.
Direct link to the page:
http://search.ancestry.com.au/Browse/view.aspx?dbid=1207&path=Queensland.1922.Capricornia.Mount+Morgan.A-Z.14
On this link, scroll down to the bottom and you will see which have been indexed and which haven't.

Hi Molie,
My 1922 ER info came from another source that I have access to. I can do other searches on that roll if you need anything.
