I found Leslie Sinclair Hadfield's military service index record - it gives his next of kin as Tessie Charman.
He was evidently born 28 Mar 1915 in Launceston, Tasmania and enlisted in Caulfield, Vic on 14 Jun 1940, leaving the army on 21 Jun 1946 - his army number VX27101.
This military service record is the only trace I can find for Leslie Sinclair Hadfield. I'd like to identify "Tessie Charman", his next of kin. Can anyone locate anything else about Leslie Sinclair Hadfield?

Hi Colin,
You might consider getting his enlistment papers for his AIF Service during WW2 from thr Australian National Archives, hopefully this should give you details of his next of kin.
http://www.naa.gov.au/index.aspx
His records have not been digitised as yet, when I followered up on WW2 records I made contact by email first then went from there, they cost a few dollars but mine did have ww2 and post WW2 recods together held at 2 different locations.
Regards
Gerry

Hi Colin,
There is a cremation at Springvale Botanical Cemetery

Date of Service 7/10/2010
Date of Death 29/09/2010

Burial Type Cremated
The cremated remains have been collected
There is a death notice in the Herald Sun
http://www.rootschat.com/links/0so8/
It gives date of death as 24/9/2010 so maybe a transcription error somewhere.
Mentions children but no wife.

Leslie's WW2 service file would give an address for Tessie CHARMAN and with her address you could search the electoral rolls. Tessie is obviously a nickname.

Hi Colin, Tessie {Esther } Charman was my Grandmother and there is much more to tell. She adopted Charman as she may have become involved in the famous Australian Circus family. This is folk lore from my Father, the brother of Leslie Sinclair. I have only one memory of meeting her , when I was about 13 years of age.
Any more information I would prefer to be private. As I am a new member due to your listing ,that is not possible at the moment.

Julian,
Welcome to rootschat and, as you have mentioned you need a couple more posts before you can use the PM system; just a smiley face will do!
I see Colin's last 'activity' on R'chat was back in January but he should receive an email letting him know that there's a new post on the thread.

Here I am back on Rootschat after a few years away collating a tidal wave of newly diditised records that have appeared on Ancestry/Findmypast. I've not seen any notifications from Rootschat so I'll have to work out why!
The story of Tessie Charman being involved with someone in an australian circus family sounds fascinating - so far I've not found any record of Charmans in the circus.
I have a copy of my tree in ancestry, which contains everything I've accumulated about the Charmans. If you want a looksee, contact me (somehow) and I'll be glad to set it up.
Regards, Colin Charman
