Title: William Dawkins of Pwllcrochan born 1821
Post by: arranquest on Friday 25 January 13 17:06 GMT (UK)
Would appreciate any help with trying to trace the ancestors of above mentioned gentleman who is my 3rd Great Grandfather. I have a copy of his first marriage wedding certificate to Esther Williams in 1848, where it is stated that his father is JOHN DAWKINS - Labourer, but I have come up against a brick wall with John!!

Many Thanks, arranquest

Hi
1851 Census for Pembrokeshire, Penally has the family living at Lydstep, Penally. John, a labourer, his wife, Jane and three children, William, George and Mary. William's place of birth is given as Monkton which is not far from Pwllcrochan.
Class: HO107; Piece: 2476; Folio: 125; Page: 5; GSU roll: 104233-104234.

Thank you Senteacher, but that is not my William Dawkins. I have all the paper trail for him, but just cannot track his father. In 1851 William is living with his second wife Maria Dally, and eldest son Thomas in St.Florence.
Think I will have to visit my home county of Pembrokeshire and have a looksee at what they have got in Haverfordwest  ;)

A William Dawkins was baptised at Pwllcrochan in 1822, appears lightly he was the son of ;

John Dawkins married Harriett Brown at Warren 17 Dec 1820
or
John Dawkins mrd Elizabeth Lewis at Cosheston 21 Sept 1823

William Dawkins, baptised Pwllcrochan in 1822 is the son of John and Lucy Dawkins of Popton village.

I can't find a marriage for them but there are other children baptised to them in Pwllcrochan, Monkton, Pembroke St Mary, and St Petrox. John dies before the 1841 census, but Lucy lives until 1869. Buried in Monkton aged 90. She is in the 1841, 1851 and 1861 census living with various of her children in Monkton. A daughter Lettice, born c1809, is in a public family tree on Anc... Lucy's maiden name is given there as Macken.

A search for Lucy Dawkins born c1779 in Pembrokeshire will find her.

Hello Rhosgoch,

Thank you for your input.

I have William's father alive in 1841, and listed on his first wedding certificate to Esther 1846, but listed as deceased on his second wedding certificate in 1848.

Hello Owen ap Benfro,

We have communicated in the past.  Thank you for helping out again.

I have Harriet living in Hundleton in various census up until 1887. Could never trace them in 1841 census though. But at least there is another piece of the puzzle fitting together!

Your contribution is much appreciated,

Best Wishes, arranquest.

Hi Arranquest,

How sure are you that John and HARRIET Dawkins are the right parents?

John and Harriet Dawkins of Highgate, Monkton, baptised a son William in 1825 at Monkton. This is not your William as he shows up in the census born Lamphey and living in Warren, and they would not have 2 sons called William. John Dawkins of Highgate, Monkton was buried in Warren in 1835, aged 44. Harriet Dawkins (Doughkins) is living in Monkton in the 1841 census with sons James 9 and Charles 6. HO107; Piece: 1443; Book: 17. District: 11; Folio: 8; Page: 10

As I said before - the William Dawkins baptised in 1822 in Pwllcrochan is the son of John and LUCY Dawkins.

I also noticed that William has a daughter named Lettice as did John and Lucy Dawkins - not a common name. Also a grand daughter Lucy Maria.

I also suspect that both the Dawkins families are related.

Regards,

Rhosgoch
