Hi, My Grandmother Elizabeth Annie Lewis on the birth of her first child, stated on the certificate that she was living at 9 Cyncoed Road Cardiff in 1924.
How can I find out who else was living at that address at the time.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Cheers.

Hi
You could check with the Cardiff records office or one of the larger Cardiff libraries as to whether any electoral registers are available for that period and whether they could lookup that address for you

Thanks for the reply Carole,I will try that,ta.

Hi
I have looked up the electrol role for all the houses on the road. The houses had no numbers only names.
So before I write out all this info for you can you fill me in on a few things.
Who was elizabeth married too? whats the name of the childs father and what was the date of the birth? Once you have given me that info I can relook at the info and see if there is a match.
These houses are not on the 1911 census not built yet! Its still farm land.
These houses were large and are still there its interesting Elizabeth gave the number 9 and not the house name was she in service there?
cheers cardiff ???

Hi Cardiff, thanks for having a search for me.
On the Birth Certificate it's
27th April 1924 , 30a Cowbridge Road.
The child was Ceridwen Elizabeth
There is no name of father on the certificate
name of mother: Elizabeth Annie Lewis, Nurse Maid of 9 Cyncoed Road Cardiff
Occupation of father-blank.
Signature of informant: E A Lewis mother,30a Cowbridge road Cardiff.
I think the 30a Cowbridge road is the Workhouse??
Elizabeth says she was a Nurse maid of 9 cyncoed road on the certificate and I wanted to find out who was living at that address.
Any help on this would be greatly received
Cheers.

Hi
This makes sense now yes it was originally a work house but became St Davids hospital.
Sadly its hard to determined what family she worked for, I checked out several books and maps and with the librarians help but later 1949's numbers on houses are given, but more houses have been built and the numbers would have changed, my own house was built in 1929 and had a name and no number in the early days.
I see what you where hoping for. But sadly you will never know who the dad was. Only Elizabeth will know that.
I though when Elizabeth had given her address as a number she had to have been in service, the house name only used by the owners.
I will look at the names and see if any of them had children, does not always work but will try.
cheers cardiff ;)

The Cardiff Union Workhouse, Cowbridge Road, Canton, was opened in 1839 and almost entirely rebuilt in 1880-1881. In 1930 the running of the workhouse was transferred from the Board of Guardians to the Public Assistance Committee of Cardiff County Council. It became St. David's hospital under the NHS in 1948
