My guess would be Russell Street School but yo could check for sure as Ayrshire Archives holds the registers for schools in Ayr.

The last building of Russell Street School was demolished this year to make way for homes,it was called the Annexe, our community in North Wallacetoun would have liked to aquire it as a community hub, however it needed so much work done to it that we decided not to go ahead.Russell Drive is close by,however these are flats built in the 1970's not the old Russell St.

My dad was born 1920 and lived on South Harbour St Ayr.I recall he told me he attended Lady jane Hamilton`s school which was on Charlotte St Ayr.If my memory is correct I believe the school building was used as the dining hall for Ayr Academy when I went there in the 1960`s

Another possible is Newtonhead School. It was at the northern end of Allison St. A bit farther to walk when they lived S. Harbour St. When Russell St. School closed in 1970s (?) many pupils moved to Newtonhead.
There's a former school building in Green St Lane. Was that a secondary school?
Lady Jane Hamilton's School sounds like a private school, or was it just the name which was posh?

Yes it was called Newton Academy,it is now home to offices of South Ayrshire Council.
