First time on here but been an observer for a long time.
Blyth bus station is being revamped, not before time. Anybody know when the last change was made and the little wooden office in the middle disappeared. The place was a mini Trafalgar Square full of pigeons and criss cross paths. We will have something pleasing on the eye I hope at the end of the day.

WELCOME, HINNY, GLAD TO HAVE YOU ON BOARD. I remember the old bus station where all the buses queued up from near the Post Office right the way round to the junction with Bridge Street. It started with the No. 39 for Newsham; then I think the No.41 for Bedlington and Ashington; then ?? the Nos. 4 and/or 6 for Newcastle - No. 4 via Cramlington ?; and the No.6 by way of Killingworth ? Then at the end of the station - the Nos. 7 Tynemouth - yellow coaches, and the No.8 (United) for Whitley Bay.
If you search round here you will find plenty photos, maps, memories, etc. of Blyth and the suburbs. I once heard a tale that a US film star, who lived in Hollywood/Beverley Hills, came over to stay with friends in Blyth. He remarked that the suburbs of Hollywood did not match those of Blyth, ie. Cowpen, Newsham, Cambois,and even Bebside. ;D

Blyth used to be a busy place at one time on market day but not been there shopping for some years now

Thanks for the welcome. As an office boy in the shipyard 1959/60 I used to take parcels to the little hut at the bus station to to be delivered to Newcastle etc by bus. I believe the last revamp was done by a firm called Muckle? from Rothbury, possibly early/mid 60's. I will check out other postings, cheers.

Earlier this week I found "About Blyth" on the web - www.aboutblyth.co.uk and there are numerous photos of the town; old photos as well. One of them shows the modernised bus station in the late '60s.

Thanks for the help, great pictures Alisdair, I have just been told that the present structures were there in 1962, seems early but there you go.
