My 4th cousin 3 times removed, Michael Waddell married Jane Morrison Matthew in Glasgow in 1845, and had three children, including Robina Steele Waddell, born (according to the 1851 census) about 1849/50. Michael died before 31 December 1854, and Jane married, in 1855, Thomas Buxton, a surgeon from Tamworth.
They had five of a family. Thomas died in 1880, and Jane in 1912, in Tamworth. I have all the information I need on the Buxtons, who are not related to me, and on Michael's elder daughter Margaret. In particular I have birth references, marriage references and death references, and all relevant census records, for all except Robina.
In particular Robina S Waddell, said to be aged 46, and unmarried, was living with her half-brother Thomas Buxton and his wife and family in Tamworth in the 1901 census.
What I would like to know is whether Robina S Waddell, who died in Tamworth 1936/Q4/6b/439, allegedly aged 57, is in fact the daughter of Michael Waddell and Jane Morrison Matthews, who would actually have been aged about 87. If not, who is this Robina S Waddell, and what happened to her elder namesake?

The death entry you have found for Tamworth..... gives her birth year as 1870 on Ancestry...and the probate for her states she is a Spinster.

My thought would be that the Robina Waddell who died in 1936, in Tamworth, is your Robina, and that somewhere the age has been misread - 57 for 87.
Robina is 58 in 1911 and still living with Thomas, and mother Jane.
The death certificate may or may not give you the confirmation you require.

I think it's the same person too.. maybe the Registrar to made the same mistake....an incomplete 8 can be mistaken for a 5

The detail of the corresponding probate entry is as follows:
WADDELL Robina Steel of Fazeley near Tamworth Staffordshire spinster died 21 December 1936. Probate London 1 February to Samuel Henry Buxton retired farmer and George Robert Jennings solicitor.
Effects £2550 9s 10d. Resworn £2680 5s 6d.

Thank you, all, for information. Everything points to her being the one I'm interested in except the A*****y date of birth. Since A******y mirrors the death indexes as transcribed on FreeBMD, I presume that they have 'calculated' her supposed DoB from her supposed age at death, so if her age is wrong on FreeBMD her DoB is automatically going to be wrong on A******y.
Does anyone know where the Buxton family were buried? Is there a churchyard/cemetery at Fazeley?

Nearest to Fazeley is possibly Wilnecote Cemetery (Old and New). The Cemeteries Department may be able to help (Tamworth Borough Council), but they may charge.
I know that Tamworth Library have the indexes for the Cemetery burials and I can go and look, if you would like me to. And there's a church in Fazeley as well - St Paul - GENUKI says that only the burial registers up to 1907 have been deposited with the Record Office, which may or may not mean that the current burial registers are still with the church.

Thank you, I would appreciate that very much indeed, but please don't put yourself out; there is no rush.

I have a list of the MIs for St Paul's Fazeley but not to hand at the moment, will check for BUXTON and WADDELL for you when I can.

I ventured to the library today. Tamworth doesn't hold St Paul, Fazeley anyway. Unless Pinetree comes back with an MI, then I will check the parish register for St Paul when I go to Lichfield Archives next week, although if GENUKI is correct I will only, possibly, find Thomas.
I did check Wilnecote Cemetery - both Old and New - and there is no sign of the Buxton family there, or Robina.
Maybe it's me, but I can't find any trace of Jane's death registration in 1912. Certainly not under Tamworth, or even Staffordshire. :-\
Historical Directories do have an entry - 1870 Harrod & Co's Directory of Derbyshire, Leicestershire, Rutland and Staffordshire - image 848
Samuel Buxton, Esq
Thomas Buxton, Esq surgeon
Samuel Buxton's name also appears as a Bleacher.

Thank you both. I had that death reference, but it's good to see that someone else agrees with me ;)
Thank you also for having a look in the library, BumbleB. Much appreciated.

Well it looks as if this is your Robina, she is buried in the churchyard of St Paul's Fazeley with her half brother Thomas BUXTON. The MI reads:
Thomas BUXTON who died June 26th 1916 aged 59
Robina Steele WADDELL died December 21st 1936 aged 87.
Thomas above (MRCS) also has a stained glass window in the Church dedicated to his memory.
Other BUXTONs buried at Fazeley:
Lizzie died 2 Aug 1863 aged 4 and Jeannie died 27 Jul 1875 aged 13 daughters of Thomas and Jeannie.
Samuel died 29 Aug 1876 aged 71 and wife Hannah died 3 March 1877 aged 70
Thomas died 24 Sep 1880 aged 68 and wife Jeannie Morrison BUXTON died 22 January 1912
Hope this helps.

I very much appreciate everyone's help with this.
