I aren't sure that is the correct place to ask, this but here goes.
Janice Rule (actress)died in 2003 and I have found her in the 1930 and 1940 census. Her father was John and her mother Kathleen.
I would like to know if there anyway of finding out if her ancestors came from Cornwall UK?
A number of Rule's emigrated to the USA from Cornwall.
-
If you Google her name - you get this.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Janice_Rule
Born in Norwood, Ohio to parents of Irish origin
-
I have googled her name and I came across that information.
According to the 1930 and 1940 census both of her parents were born in Missouri.
I was just curious as to whether any of her Rule ancestors came from Cornwall. Rule is a well known surname in parts of Cornwall.
-
You would have to track back via her father for that info - not Janice
You would have to obtain his parents details and work backwards from there
-
According to the US census her parents were John and Kathleen and John was born in 1906.
I have searched online for a Missouri marriage of John and Kathleen hoping that I would find his parents names, but without success.
-
Can you find John on the 1910 census which should give his parents names plus their origin
The 1930 shows him as John C
-
There are several public trees on Ancestry for this family. Father John Christopher mother Frances Kathleen Forbes
Grandparents Charles William Rule b 1871 Missouri and Lula or Lulu M Teague b 1872
There are photos of late family members and reading back to 1845 on the Rule side shows no connection to anywhere except the USA
-
Thanks for your help.
In the 1900 census it states that Christopher Rule (as he is called then) has his father's birthplace as Germany and his wife's parents were from ireland. So no Cornish connection.
-
An old post but here goes.
I need help to find Christopher's birth .
Christopher was born in Maryland 1843 but I can't find the birth of him so don't know who his mother is.
Any help will be appreciated.

Need help in finding Charles William Rule b 1871, Missouri in the 1880 census.
I have looked high and low but can'r find him or a birth.
Added: Is Charles a son of J C and Celestia Rule living at Green,North Springfield,Missouri?
Her father was born in Ireland but no place of birth for the father of J C Rule.
I haven't a subscription for ancestry so can't access the records online.

Thanks for this information Sandra.
I wonder if I had the correct information in post 7. Re-the father born in Germany. Maybe I have 2 families muddled up.
-
I was hoping to find Christopher in 1860 but haven't had any luck yet.
As far as I can see there aren't any birth records in the area that Christopher was born.

The Springfield News Leader (Springfield Greene Misssouri) 6 Jnaury 1911 - page 6
Confirms he was born in Baltimore MD.

There was a Christoher Rule born 1775 Germany (weaver) living in Baltimore Ward 17, Baltimore, Maryland on the 1850 census. Sadly no other Rule members with him. :-\

The death of Christopher Edward Rule or Edward Christopher Rule - 20 April 1870 - 4 September 1916 gives father J C Rule born MD

1900 census for Raplh Rule gives fathers birth place as Maryland
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:M3CK-FS4
During 1800 to 1864, Maryland did not require the recording of any birth information. Only local churches were recording births occurring during this time period so might be difficult to find John Christopher Rule. :-\

That fits in with the 1900 census saying the father was born in Germany but surely too old be be a father but maybe another relation?
I wonder why his son doesn't appear in the 1850 and 1860 census.
Only got interested in Janice because there were lots of Rule's in Cornwall. No relation.

IF his father was born in Germany then the spelling could be RUHL
U.S. and Canada, Passenger and Immigration Lists Index, 1500s-1900s - Munde Ruhl - arrived Baltimore 1844 - AnnotationDate and place of declaration of intention to become a citizen or of naturalization. Extracted from records filed and recorded in Baltimore City and Baltimore County Courts between the end of the American Revolution and 1851. Country of origin, date and t
anc names him as - MUNDES (Raymundes, Munde, Muntis, Mudes) Ruhl
born 1804 - Hesse D'Armstadt, Hessen, Germany passed away 1891 - Baltimore, Baltimore.

Christopher was born in 1843 too early for this chap to be his father?
If an obituary of Me Ruhlund is online maybe it will have names of his family.
-
Birth year seems to vary between 1843/1844/1845/1848 on records !!!!!!!! We all know dates can vary. :-\

You would think that they would know their ages.
I put ru**** in 1850 and found a Munda Rue 1810 ,born Germany with wife Jane 1817 born Maryland with children John C 1844 and Joseph 1847 and William S 1850.
This is the nearest that I can find a JC with that age,
I wonder if the father is related to immigration list chap that you found.
-
I wondered if this marriage might tie in ?

No references in any of this to a link to Cornwall................
There is also a suggestion that Abel Ruhl was a half brother to Munde - Abel married Mary Emerick in Maryland.

Wonder if these are the same paremts as those of Munde Ruhl ?
There is an entry for a birth Abel Rühl - Birth Date 12 Nov 1820 - Baptism Date 15 Nov 1820
Maulbach, Hessen (Hesse), Deutschland (Germany) - parents - Peter Rühl - Mother Elizabetha Rühl

Interesting - looking at Muntis Ruhl on the 1870 census - living with the Hipkins family. A Joseph Ruhl married Amelia Hipkins 15 June 1840 Baltimore Maryland. Adeline could be a Ruhl sister who married a Hipkins :-\
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:MN3W-344
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:F4JV-MWG
Adelheid Rühl - birth/baptism 21 Oct 1813 - Schotten, Hessen (Hesse), Deutschland
Friedrich Rühl - Mother Elisabetha Rühl
This looks like Adeline/Adelheid with her children and her mother Ann E (born 1777) in 1850 Baltimore, ward 17, Baltimore, Maryland.
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:MD4Z-V1W
and in 1860 17th Ward Baltimore City, Baltimore, Maryland - again with her mother - could Christopher born 1816 be Munde :-\ (name and birth date varying................... ???)

Thanks again for the information.
I noticed that the surname was Rule in one of the censuses,so I presume that must have how it sounded.
There doesn't seem to be a Cornish connection anywhere that I can see.
Late last night I turned the television on and the end credits came up for the film 'The Swimmer' with Burt Lancaster and Janice Rule was one of the actresses. What a coincidence. If I had turned on earlier I may have seen her.
