This from Steve Robinson's newsletter;
I also wanted to let you know that In the Blood will be free for the Amazon Kindle and devices from tomorrow for 5 days, so if you know anyone who might like to read it, please let them know that they can get a free copy for a limited time.
Tomorrow being Thursday 24 January. It's a great genealogy based read :)

Thanks Jane I will check it out.
best wishes
Maria :)

If you do read it Maria, you wont put it down :) The second book, 'To the Grave' is equally as good. Enjoy,
Jane

Oh that's no good. This looks really interesting, but I don't have a kindle. Just checked and my library doesn't have it, so I might have to make a purchase. :)
-
You can download a free kindle app for your computer from Amazon.
-
Thanks Scotmum, but I took the plunge and ordered the two books from Amazon. I am less inclined to read huge amounts of text on the computer and generally prefer to lounge about when reading. But thank you anyway. :)
-
Thank you! I just got a Kindle so will look forward to reading this.
-
Thanks Jane for the tip.
Can't download it free - but for a small charge from the German site. Looks very promising.
Thanks again.

Very useful to find out about the free kindle app for the laptop - I have a Kobo e-reader so that I can download free books from the county library, but Kindle books aren't compatible, annoying because they seem to have a wider range and cheaper prices than the Kobo store. I downloaded the Kindle app for my laptop but it wouldn't let me get 'In the Blood' free - I had to pay 77p! :o ::) ;D I've already started it and it looks good.
I think I might find the laptop awkward for reading in bed ;D ;D Still I've now got another way of getting books free/cheap!
Thank you Jane

As original poster said, it is free (again, as comes up on offer regular) from tomorrow, 24th Jan.
-
Oh Scotmum I'm such an idiot! It's not the first time I've done something stupid like that! :-[ :-[ :-[ :-[
I'll plead 'senior moment' ;D ;D ;D
I don't think the 77p will make the economic crisis worse :)

;D....we all have similar moments......regardless of age..... ;D

:)Have downloaded it.My daughter says I'm addicted to my kindle!

Have just downloaded it, thanks for the recommendation I shall look forward to reading this over the weekend.

It is of course, possible to read it another way !
I'm reading it the old fashioned way, words on paper bound into that thing called a book .... and am thoroughly enjoying it. A good read.
-
Thanks for that info Jane :)
I was going to buy the book (proper paper book ;) ) last month but didn't get around to it and have just this minute downloaded it for free.
Look forward to reading it :)
-
Downloaded it onto kindle for free! Thanks for the tip.
Am enjoying it already.
-
And if you enjoyed In the Blood - Steve has written 2 others, both equally as good.
Cannot recommend his books highly enough :)
-
Not seen these before but the premise is certainly interesting – heir hunter uncovering dastardly deeds in the past. The scope for stories in this vein is considerably large, especially considering how many real life ancestral tales revealed on rootschat are such eye openers.
On a more straight forward note may I recommend Damned Charity, a historical fiction Kindle e-book set in the East Midlands during the Great Cheese Riot of 1766.
-
I didn't know there was a Great Cheese Riot ;D but will have a look for it GFHWP,

Came across this one; Tainted Tree by Jacquelyn Luben. Another genealogy driven novel. Reviews look excellent & only 1.90 for Kindle download :)
Jane
-
Thanks for the info. I have just downloaded it free to my Kindle !!!!!!! Caron .
-
Read Tainted Tree some time ago - a fantastic story.
-
Thanks again for recommendation Jane - I have read it & absolutely loved it.
best wishes
Maria :)

Glad you enjoyed it Maria. Try his other books, To the Grave & Last queen of England. Haven't read the last one but To the Grave was good!

A thumbs up from me for 'To The Grave', managed to get it the other day for £0.79 on Amazon, although I see it is £1.99 today (always worth checking regularly as prices go up and down). Yet again, though, be warned that once you start reading, you will find it hard to get anything else done until you reach the end ;D.
-
I know what you mean ;D totally unable to put it down! Last Queen of England is also awesome ;D
-
Bumping this for any who missed the last time 'In the Blood' was free - it is on again today at £0.00 ;D (remember though, price can change in same day, so double check it is still at £0.00 before clicking to buy).
-
After all the recommendations it was great to be able to download it for free today. Thanks for keeping an eye on it scotsmum!
Ann
-
I echo the thanks. :)
Will no doubt enjoy a good read like this.

Hi Jane
Read your thread & recommendation some time ago about 'In the Blood' and downloaded it. I thought it was fantastic. I then bought the second 'To the Grave' equally excellent. So will def be looking to download his other two books. I hope Steve is making some money from these e-books! Write some more please Steve. :)
-

Did you know that you can download digital books from your local library here in the UK using your library ticket number.
-
Yes thank you zace66, I do that all the time, hence the Kobo as the library doesn't support the Kindle, but there are often these free/cheap offers of titles for Kindle (which are not in the library) which I can't download to the Kobo - very frustrating!

If anyone downloads a book from the library onto their computer to be read using Adobe Digital Editions, although the file cannot be read after the return date, the file still remains on the computer.
If you got to the Documents library and look at My Digital Editions you will find the files there.
Up to you how you deal with them, personally i delete them.
-
Mumjo - I noticed that too, every so often I have a 'clean-up' session and delete the files. But then maybe I should keep them as I often don't remember what I've borrowed ::) At least with 'real' library books, I used to recognise the cover pictures ;D

Roopat, even with the 'real' books the covers differ when they are reprinted or brought out in paperback so i keep a database of the books i have read and also those i want to read which goes with me everywhere, (stays in my handbag and as long as i have my handbag i'm fine ;D)
Helps with those charity shop searches too!
