Looking for a date on these characters. :)

1870s, probably mid but maybe earlier. The lady's hairstyle isn't typical of that decade, but the dress is.

The gent has a posing stand behind him to keep his head still for the shot. They'd pretty well disappeared by the middle of the decade. This one looks quite substantial and it's rare to see so much of one in the picture.

There are also elements of the previous decade in this photo...the blank wall behind is more of an 1860s look...perhaps the photographer wasn't big on embellishments :)

Cheers,
China

Completely agree with China. The dress is very distinctly 1870s, though the hair is not. I'd say the phot quality also points to the late '70s or early '80s. Very interesting photograph, do you reckon their siblings or maybe a very young married couple?

I was wondering the same thing. They have a similar look to them...and the gent doesn't seem big enough to be a husband. Brother and sister?

I like his face...it has "character" :)

Personally I think they're siblings. Going off the date given I think they're probably younger siblings or cousins of my ggg-grandmother. The woman in particular has the look of the Mann family to her.
