Joseph Surtees... and all I know about him is that he is my gggrandmother Sarah's father...... I think he is from around Sunderland or Essington or Whickham area. He would probably have been born about 1794. If anyone can help that would be great.

I don't think theses are mine as my Sarah Surtees was born abt 1820 in sunderland. She married a John Tennet 1838 in Easington. Family gossip/myth has her being disinherited for marrying beneath her (getting pregnant and running off with the gardner) Supposedly she could'nt even dress her own hair, and had had a maid!! she had 11 children. Of her father Joseph ,I know nothing except his name.
Thank you though ,for taking the time to do that look up for me. I shall keep it on file in case it pertains to one of the sibblings of Sarah.

Hi there. I see that this is a very old thread indeed so I have no ide if you will see this. This is my first post so I also have no idea how to message you at all, if even possible.
My nan Anis Ford (nee Buck) passed away in 2017 and I began tracing her roots. She grew up in County Durham. In her picture collection was one that we have no names for. But my nan claimed that the lady either came from aristocracy or a wealthy family. The story goes that she was disinherited for running away with the gardner!! I am lower than an ametuer researcher and have little finances to trace properly. I have only managed to go a few generations back on my nans paternal father. Not having any names on this disinherited lady, I simply typed into roots chat 'disinherited for running away with the gardner' and your post came up and here I am. May be a long shot but I was wondering if you could please provide any details on that line... wondering if I can link somewhere and its the same lady? Many thanks. Im not too sure how to post the photo but if yoy can explain I will be glad to upload. She is with a gentleman in the photo. Maybe the gardner or maybe their son?
