Title: The Railway Hotel Waterloo Great Crosby
Post by: atticus on Monday 21 January 13 15:32 GMT (UK)
Could anybody please tell me if the Railway Hotel Waterloo is still there please? I have looked at Goole maps and there is a pub on Brighton Road called ''the Railway" but I am not sure if that is the one I am looking for. The hotel I am looking for was trading in 1867. I have a Death Certificate that states my gt gt gt gt gt grandfather died in this hotel after being hit by a train!

Any help would be gratefully received as I am going up to Liverpool next month and if the hotel is still there would like to visit it. Thank you atticus

The Railway Hotel was listed on Brighton Road, Waterloo in the 1871 census so it`s probably reasonable to assume that it was also there in 1867.  It is also marked on the old maps on www.old-maps.co.uk in exactly the same place as the present Railway Hotel.  You should also see the goods yard and the sidings which were on the opposite side of Brighton Road.

My ggg grandfather ran this pub from September 1865. Would you like to confer?
