Hi Velcro

Since you are asking for  Census help, even the 'abt' years that you have etc would be of help!

However, I'm referring this back to your topic of 2010, in which the 1851 Census was seemingly found for you, of Matthew & Mary - in Lambeth with 5 children.
http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=427758.0

Is the list of children you have given here in order? If so, then clearly any born after Charlotte won't be on any Census in the UK, since they left in 1857.

That 2010 topic also mentioned:
"A Mary Clark married a Matthew Dickerson/Dickenson 1838 in Marylebone, father John Clark, Shepherd - the only Mary Ann Clarke married 1832 Norfolk was  9/8/1832 Necton, Norfolk to a Samuel Dickson" So I'm curious, have you also since made discovery that the 9 Aug 1832 Necton marriage was Mary Ann & Matthew? and the 1838 Marylebone marriage is NOT them? )

Cheers

As pointed out to you in 2010 the marriage at Necton in 1832 was between a Samuel Dickason and an Ann Clark.   Samuel would appear to be your Matthews brother and quite possibily Ann was a sister of Mary.  The name 'Samuel' is not a mistake on the marriage record, Samuel and Ann had a son Samuel bp.9/12/1832 Necton and a son William bp.6.8/1835 Necton!

Again, as already pointed out to you, Matthew Robert was plain Matthew, wife Mary Clarke was plain Mary not Mary Ann.   The 1851 census details have already been given to you and cannot locate them anywhere in 1841.

The eldest child - Hannah - was, again as already advised, bp.23/5/1836 Necton, illeg. dau. of Mary Clarke i.e. Matthew and Mary had not married then.

There are a number of online trees for this family that are somewhat up the pole to put it bluntly.   Someone seems to have posted incorrect information and everyone else has just copied it.    Matthew and Mary's dau. Sarah Ann for example - one tree I looked at states she was b.10/5/1843 Lambeth (which she may well have been) and bp.30/6/1844 St. George the Martyr, Southwark.    I've just looked on St. George the Martyr records for 30/6/1844 and the only entry this date is a Hannah Sarah Dickeson , dau. of Henry John and Elizabeth!!!!

As to all the children you list - they didn't appear to baptise any of them in London!

The 'trees' state John was b.1839 Richmond, Victoria (when the family hadn't even left England)
Robert b. & d.1841 but no places given at all.
then comes Sarah Ann - birth regn. June qtr. 1843 Lambeth (which fits)
Mary (not Mary Ann) - reg'd Sept.1845 Marylebone
                  Robert - regd. Sept.1847 Marylebone
Charlotte - cannot even find a birth registration for her
As the 2 Harriet's born after 1851 do not know where they were born so can't pinpoint their birth registrations even.    The last 2 would appear to have been born in Australia.

Dear Carole
Could you do a lookup for Matthew Dickason and Hannah Chilvers please? Before 1st born William 1805 probably Necton or maybe Tottington where Hannah was born in Norfolk?
As stated before First I tried to find the family in 1851 and eventually found them transcribed as Tickason!

Are there census records of Matthew and Mary Dickason in Norfolk?

Other census (not census in Australia) records for this family would be in Victoria Australia after 1854 any sign of them recorded?
Cheers

In 1841 Matthew and Hannah are still in Necton - transcribed as Dickmann!!

Marthen (?) Dickmann   60     Carpenter
Hannah Dickmann  50
James Dickmann   17
Sarah Ann Dickmann 12

ref. HO107 - 773 - 17 - 13 - 20

The 'trees' show Matthew d.31/3/1843 Necton but he wasn't buried there.

Hannah Dickason buried at Necton 19/12/1849.

Can find no trace of Matthew and Mary anywhere in the country in 1841 - sounds like they somehow dodged the enumerator.

1. Matthew Dickason married Hannah Chilvers 24/4/1803 Necton, Norfolk on familysearch but in view of Yokel's posting this was probably a banns date and that the marriage took place at Torrington 3/5/1803.

2. We seem to be going over the same old ground - Matthew and Mary did not marry in 1832 (that was a Samuel Dickason and an Ann Clark).   We've given you proof but you still say you are confused - why?

3. They still hadn't married by 1836 when eldest child Hannah was baptised 23/5/1836 Necton, dau. of Mary Clark.   They married in 1838 Marylebone and I have just view the marriage certificate:

Matthew Dickason, Carpenter, son of Matthew Dickason, Carpenter
Mary Clark, dau. of John Clark, Shepherd.

He signed, she made her mark and the witnesses were a John Dickason and J E Blaby

The address given for both of them is 19 Hatton Street and they married 19/3/1838 St. Marylebone

I checked this address on 1841 Census and a William and Rebecca Dickason are living there (ref. HO107 - 678 - 9 - 49 - 24) -  believe this is Matthew's brother and clearly who he and Mary first lived with when they moved to London.   From marriage certificate/census it would seem that at least 3 of the brothers moved to London i.e. William, John and Matthew.

Matthew and Hannah has the following children baptised at Necton, Norfolk:

William 21/8/1804
Matthew 5/5/1808
Samuel 6/4/1810 (one married in 1832)
Robert 24/6/1814
John 16/3/1816
Thomas 8/12/1817
George 20/12/1819
Elizabeth 6/12/1821
James 6/12/1823
Greenwood 20/3/1826
Sarah Ann bc.1828/9

Thank you Annette Yokel and Carole for sorting out my questions and setting me straight.
From Matthew and Mary's children's names have Hannah's mother's maiden name: Greenwood- Sarah Greenwood and Samuel Chilvers.
Will lookup Sarah's bdm and that will bring me further back another generation.
Sorry being a little blonde but that happens at times.
Marathon effort Annette.
Looked up on Google map for 19 Hatton St Marylebone London. Still there.

Have George Dickason ch.17 Mar 1748 Necton m.30 Oct 1777 Necton to Mary unknown  b. abt 1752. Any records of her full ch. records and parents?
George died ?  Norfolk  Mary buried 2 Sep 1815 aged 63.
Death record for George please?

Cheers

That Dickason was her maiden name?

If so maybe a first cousin??

Welcome to the wonderful but messy world of Dickason families.
I have many records from many sources - some of which has not been confirmed.
As noted the early researchers made many mistakes and the spelling of the name has been very mixed - even for the same person the spelling can be different on birth, marriage & death records before you try to find them on census records !
The links to Necton, Norfolk for some of us are proven and I have visited the church and 'pub' where my ancestor lived. Other families are linked to Cambridgeshire including Dickinson families in USA whose DNA has been matched to my cousins in England, South Africa & Argentina.
Velcro : looks like we are related but I am not sure if we have corresponded before - I do not remember that username. Since I am travelling at the moment I do not have my records with me but can ask my son to answer any questions you have.
