I can't find a Selvey Hill on any census! ;D
Can you tell us who?
And can you give us the census references?

Hi
I looked at the image for the census return .
I think it says Silver not Selvey, I reckon what you are seeing as the down stroke of a 'y' is the upstroke of an 'h' in the line underneath.
I may be wrong though :-)

In the 1841 census there were four places called Silver Hill in Northumberland: in Earsdon, Newburn, Newcastle upon Tyne and St John Lee.

and the 1860 farm index http://www.northumberland.gov.uk/idoc.ashx?docid=75caa247-2eb6-417f-b0c3-2838ae2897af&version=-1
Shows the same 4 and gives the place name as well as the parish.
Silver Hill, Hartley, Earsdon
Silver Hill, Dalton, Newburn
Silver Hill, Benwell, Newcastle St John
Silver Hill, Acomb West, St John Lee

Thanks everyone - I think that the Earsdon one makes the most sense.
