Hi
I noticed this on Heather's blog on her site
Please don’t worry – the data will go to a good home and you will be notified. The volunteering will go and and must continue. Whoever takes over the data will absorb the volunteers and all the work gone into it.
Thanks so much for all the kind words – it really is appreciated
So there is a glimmer of hope that the data will be made available through another avenue
Regards
Gillian

Thats good news!

One can only presume it has been bought by FindMyPast or Ancestry. Thus the whole closing affair seems a little odd. Should have been termed re-locating.

It would be a shame if one of the overseas genealogy sites bought over Ancestry24. The cost of the subscriptions puts it out of reach of most South Africans because of the exchange rates. It will really make research in South Africa that much more difficult and out of reach for a lot of locals :-\
