Title: Help please Thomas Thomas & Ann MacCarty m. 1833 St Mary Redcliffe
Post by: reeveh on Tuesday 15 January 13 12:51 GMT (UK)
Hi ,
I'm stuck now and have no idea where to turn....any guidance will be much appreciated, this is what I know so far ...

Thomas Thomas married widow Ann MacCarty 1833 St. Mary Redcliffe, the marriage appears on Bristol & Avon FHS CD Vol 8.

As Ann was a widow when she married I tried searching for an earlier MacCarty marriage,
the only one I could find was Owen McCarty bach otp to Ann Webb spin otp 31 Mar 1828 - Bedminster St. John. The only problem with that marriage is that it makes the Ann in my family tree around about 13 yrs; I know girls got married at a very young age but I'm not convinced it's the same Ann.

By the time the 1841 census was taken Thomas & Ann  had a daughter Ann Thomas abt. 1835, I can't find a baptism for her.

I cannot find any trace of them on the 1841 census, but they do appear on the 1851 census living in Uphill.

Thomas Thomas abt .1805 Swansea
Ann Thomas abt. 1815 Swansea
Ann Thomas abt. 1835 Bristol (no baptism shown on Bristol Bapt. Vol 7)
Emma Thomas abt. 1843 Bristol
Alfred Thomas abt. 1845 Bristol
Mary Thomas abt. 1847 Bristol
Margaret Thomas abt. 1849 Bristol
Edward Thomas abt 1850 Uphill

HO107; Piece:1936; Folio:425; PAGE:11
............................................................

The 1861 census shows Ann's birthplace as Bristol, no trace of husband Thomas he may have been at sea.

Thanks for taking the time to read all this

Best wishes Yvonne Hills

do you have the birth cert for Edward born in Uphill? It would give you Ann's maiden name.

Edward Thomas march qtr 1850 Axbridge vol 10 pg 332

Given the age gap between daughters Ann (16) and Emma ( 8 ) are you sure that they are married by 1841? Ann could be Thomas' daughter from a previous marriage and his marriage to Ann could be after the 1841 census.

Hi,
Apologies for delay in replying but I've only now seen this.
I do have a copy of Edwards's birth certificate.  According to parish records Ann was a widow when she married Thomas Thomas
