Title: FELTON CHARLOTTE TREMAINE born abt 1790 St Giles or Holborn
Post by: racheljoyce on Tuesday 15 January 13 09:15 GMT (UK)
I believe she could be the daughter of WILLIAM FELTON ( coachmaker) and TREMAINE but have failed to trace christening or any other evidence other than William Felton being witness at her marriage to Henry William Bannister (surgeon).
Other children were christened at St Andrews Holborn. I checked the records but failed to find her.

William Felton married Tramaine White, 12 Sept 1782, St Anne Middlesex (Westminster Marriage Transcripts). There is a will on National Archives for William John Felton, Coachbuilder of Halkin Street, West Belgrave, Westminster, 9 Mar 1854 PROB 11/2187/449 (not expensive to purchase). A burial for Tremaine Felton of Winchester Street, Islington on 28 Mar 1829, age 69 on London Deaths & Burials. No sign of Charlottes baptism yet.

Cheers, Jo

Thank you very much.

I am not convinced William Felton and William John Felton are one and the same. William is always said to live in Leather Street and was bankrupted in 1804. William John, coachmaker, is of Long Acre and was still living after I may have found William Felton's death reg. in 1829 - burial same place as Tremaine St James, Pentonville.

I am trying to find christening record for William's son Henry who was important figure in Falkland Island's history - born abt 1798/9.

Hi

St Giles in the Fields have not deposited their parish registers. Parish registers deposited at the London Metropolitan Archives are online on the subscription website Ancestry. A few surviving Bishops Transcripts for St Giles in the Fields, deposited at the LMA, are online from 1800 onwards.  The LMA have the parish registers for St Giles in the Fields on microfilm.

Regards

Valda

Not found in St Giles in The Fields baptisms 1789-1792 search.

Records used - jpg images of films at LMA. (quicker than me going down to look at the registers all the time)

If you put his name in followed by coach maker on google there is a lot about him including a plaque erected in Leather Lane in his honour. it also says he was entered as bankrupt in 1803

A tree on another site states Henry William Felton Sargent Major in the Life Guards was baptised 12/04/1798 at St George's church Hanover square London, this seems to be a very well known family

I have yet to see evidence for Henry Felton's christening in 1798...I have researched him considerably.

Have you tried the Westminster Archives, they are not online and also have not deposited with the LMA, I had to go there to find ancestors in that area.

Yes.

The Archive and Local Studies assistant at the City of Westminster Archives checked 1798, 1799 and 1800 for me for any record at St George's, Hanover Square, but none was found.

Did you find the connection between William Felton and William John Felton?
Could William John be a son?

I am writing about Danish coach building and found a connection to a William John Felton, London.

Best regards,

I spent a long time trying to establish a link and failed as you can see from previous correspondence here.
