Hi, Im trying to establish the background of my paternal great great grandparents John Sims married to Agnes Peebles, their son James Sims my great grandfather was born in Hardwick in 1895, later settling in NZ ( see my completed request under SIMS in the NZ forum).
Any help much appreciated. John Sims was listed as a chaufeur on James's marriage certificate.

The Gloucestershire BMD indexes - ww3.gloucestershire.gov.uk - indicate that James SIMS was born out of wedlock.
If you wish, you can order a copy of his birth certificate directly from the above website.

Thanks Claire & Victor, Claire, Ive seen that record of a James Sims at the address of Mary & Harriet and until I got his marriage cert assumed that this was "him", now I'm not so sure, but haven,t ruled it out yet!!
Victor I will send off for this birth certificate and hopefully it will shed some more light, if indeed he was born out of wedlock it might connect him to Claire's record :-\ :-\
I have also come across a newspaper clipping (British Newspaper Archivesof a John Sims marrying a Agnes Peebles in Scotland in 1895
