I see on another forum that William's wife is given as Agnes Simpson.
http://archiver.rootsweb.ancestry.com/th/read/AUS-QLD-TOOWOOMBA/2009-03/1238283391
I can't find the marriage. Nor can I find their burial at Toowoomba cemetery.http://www.toowoombarc.qld.gov.au/
There is a burial of an Annie Ritchie at the cemetery who died aged 83 in 1947 (seems too much older than Alexander ?? ). Where did Alexander die?

Ros

Alistair,
Presumably you know the name of your grandmother's parents (and therefore the parents of her brothers) would you mind giving us that information. It may help.
Can you confirm that the WW1 listing for ALEXANDER with father ANDREW as Next of Kin sounds correct.
If you have seen the WW1 record digitised for WILLIAM you will note he has 3 chn under 16 in 1915.
This may be the birth of one, though without AGNES' maiden name it is only speculative..

On his enlistment in 20th August 1915 Alexander put down his PO address as James St (West) Toowoomba, this was the same street that his brother resided!

Alistair,
In Reply #9 I asked you some questions.
Are you able to respond?
Also, if you have any other information about the men it would be best to present it at this point rather than later.
Every little clue helps.

Hi I believe William Brown Ritchie married Agnes SIMPSON. She is a distant relative of mine. I don't know when they went out to Australia but it was after they were married. I know they had a son called Henry and lived in James Street
FYI Simpson and Sampson are interchangeable in my family. My father's second name was Simpson which should have been Sampson as that was his mother's maiden name - however my grandfather got it wrong on the certificate !
-
Just seen some of the previous entries. This information may be of interest.
William Brown Ritchie married Agnes Hill Simpson on 30 july 1909 at East Ingliston, Kinnettles, Forfarshire, Scotland. East Ingliston will be the name of a local farm where William was a ploughman at the time. William was 21 and Agnes was 19.

Hi Rachael,Sue,Ros & Gerry,
Hope you are all well.
I thought I'd better post this to all of you.
Massive thanks to all of you for your help.
I've hit the Bulls eye.
On a Facebook Page, someone very kindly took on my search.
After a wee while,I received a message from Researcher Cheryl, who spoke to Ann Ritchie who is 90.
Her late Husband was Alexander Ritchie's Son, Gordon Ritchie.
I've received an email from Carole Ritchie, Ann's Daughter in Law.
Wife of Peter Gordon Ritchie.
Quite incredible.
Regards Alistair.

Thank you for letting us know. It's always rewarding to hear of family connections finding each other.

Hi , l realise that I am replying to a very old post and that you may well have found a lot more since then . William Brown Ritchie wife Agnes was My Great Aunt. Her full name was Agnes Hill Simpson my fathers aunt. He never spoke about them, so I don't known if he was even aware of their existence. I see from a photo that I have found that they had 3 children but so far I haven't been able to find out anything about them. Hop you don't mind me getting in touch about such an old post. I have just discovered Root Chat today
Best Regards

Hi Ken,
I have quite a lot of info on the Simpson Family in Scotland.
Can you give me info of how your related.
I maybe able to fill in some blanks.
I've managed to trace a lot of William Ritchie's Family.
But quite a few married with no family.
I've been able to trace Alexander's relatives.
And I know of someone who contacted a living relative.
Regards
Alistair.

Hi Alistair,
Agnes Hill Simpson was my great aunt wife of William Brown Ritchie.
She was the sister of my grand father James Smith Simpson 1896 - 1957
They all mostly lived in west Angus (Forfarshire) ie. Glamis, Kinnettles, Meigle, Kirkinch.
My grandmother Mary Craig Burns the above James Smith Simpsons wife, her mothers maiden name was Margaret Kidd Simpson 1866 - 1936
Her family mostly lived in the same area.
I can trace a lot of them back to the late 1700s
If your Simpsons are the same family we may be able to help each other.
I use Ancestry.com
Best Regards
Ken

Hi Ken,
My Granny Elizabeth Welsh Gray (Ritchie).
She had 9 Brothers, 2 of which went to Australia & 1 to New Zealand.
1 died in WW1 & the youngest died in 1910 age 2.
I'm on Ancestry as well, but I've not posted my Trees.
It's just too complicated, although not as complicated as a lot of trees.
But I tend to go back and forth, when I find new info.
My Ancestry ID is Alistair688.
I had a issue with a tree on Ancestry concerning my Granny's Ritchie Family.
Someone posted her Ritchie parents as having 3 other siblings.
I took a closer look, to find they were born either side, of proven siblings.
My Great Great Grand Parents would have had to move, from the county of Angus to Edinburgh & back to Angus. Twice to have had these Children.
So I'm now very careful with trees on Ancestry.
I have details of James Smith Simpson & Agnes Simpson.
But I expect you have this also, and more.
I've just got details on William Burns & Margaret Kydd Simpson.
Their 5 Children: David,Alexander,Mary Craig,Leslie & Williamina Burns.
Ritchie Family:
Ritchie Henry Ritchie & Jane Brown.
Children: William (Australia),Harry,James (1891-1917) (Killed WW1),Alexander (Australia),David,Elizabeth,Robert,Fred (NZ),George & Allan (Died young).
William Brown Ritchie (27/10/1887-1975 Toowoomba, Queensland, Australia) Family is:
Agness Hill Simpson (b. 9/12/1889 -d.4/4/1970 Toowoomba, Queensland, Australia).
Henry (b.9/1909 Toowoomba, Queensland, Australia -d.10/1983 Toowoomba, Queensland, Australia).
William Jnr (b.15/2/1913 Toowoomba, Queensland, Australia -d.20/4/1999)
Married Gwendoline Doris McGinn (B.25/1/1917 Brisbane, Queensland, Australia- d. 11/3/1999 Brisbane, Queensland, Australia).
Elizabeth (4/1919 Toowoomba, Queensland, Australia - 9/1999 Toowoomba, Queensland, Australia ). Married William Priest (1909-1978) Brisbane, Queensland, Australia.
Their Son is William Peter Priest Wife Yvonne Judith (Surname unknown).
Regards
Alistair.
