I was hoping someone may be able to tell me what and where this place name is in Co. Carvan. I have a Bernard Roden aged 32 in the 1911 census (Tooting, London) who gives it as his bith place.
Please see hopefully attached image.
Many thanks

Hi,
It appears to be DRUMLANE. There are two townlands with this name in Co. Cavan. Drumlane in the parish of Larah in the district of Cootehill and the other in the Parish of Drumlane in the district of Cavan town.

Many thanks kingskerswell - now you say Drumlane, that does indeed look right and good to learn of the two Drumlane possibilities.
Much appreciated :D

Drumlane is also a parish. Searching Griffiths Valuation for Roden in Drumlane parish gets matches for Patrick and Philip Roden who were farming in Drumkerril townland in 1857. Searching in the 1901 census reveals Roden, Ruden and Rudden families still there.

Might be worth checking Drumlane RC parish records to see if this is connected to your family.

Many thanks for the extra info Elwyn. The spelling variations are a pain tracing him and his offspring in the UK never mind in Ireland!

I don't know if this is of any help but when my father was alive he used to talk about a family of Rodens that lived nearby when he was living in Killeshandra Co Cavan.
The ancestors of the Roden family are on the 1911 census.
