Please may I have a lookup in the Electoral Rolls for the years 1871 to 1877 inclusive for my elusive ggrandfather. Here is a brief synopsis"
Henry (James) HART b. Brighton 1853 moved to Oldham between 1871 and 1874. For some unknown reason he changed his name to Henry HAYDEN. His first child, Henry James HAYDEN was born in Oldham, 1874. by 1877 he had moved to Shoreditch.
three of his children had the surname HAYDEN and one HART.
If I can find our *when* his name changed, perhaps I could find out *why*.
I hope this post is appropriate.

Hi,
Very few had the right to vote in the time frame unless they actually owned their own home or paid more than £10 a year rent. What was his occupation?

Hi
Electoral Rolls can only be searched by address - not by name. Do you know his address or addresses in Oldham between 1871-1877

1901 in Brighton
Henry James Hayden 26 b 1874 Oldham * son
Flora B Hayden 25 born 1876 Birmingham
Flora Hayden 4 b1897 Yorkshire
Winifred Hayden 2 b1899 Glamorgan Wales
34/931/84/5
Do you have Father Henry James in any census?

Henry James Hayden 1874 Oldham
Lancashire BMD gives his mother's maiden name as WILKINSON
Did Henry James Snr. marry as a Hayden or Hart? haven't found a marriage to a Wilkinson

Thank you all for your responses:
Mo: His occupation was Painter (presumably house painter).
CarolineW: The only address I have for him in 1874 was 43 Rock Street, Oldham.
Heatherjulie: This is his son and family.
Ladyhawk: That record is correct. There was never a marriage.
On his son's birth certificate in 1874, his name was Henry James HAYDEN. As his original surname was HART, presumably he changed his name when living in Lancashire.
