I am looking for a James Gallacher who was in (South) London in the 1954. He had served in the (Royal) Navy and was said to be a Scot (so I assume he was born in Scotland even if not subsequently resident there).
He was married but separated at that time.
I believe he would have been born between 1920-1934 or so.
Any ideas? He could be one of several born in Scotland in that period.
Sorry to be vague - I really haven't much info. Just hope someone knows of one who was in the Royal Navy.
Thanks

Hi missgenealogy
Welcome to RootsChat :)
I expect there might be a baby involved here... ::)
You may not get an immediate response, but amazing over time how people can find connections and then post.
Hope you find what you need :)

Yes, you are of course right. I am not seeking to make contact with lost relatives to create a family but just want to know a bit more about origins etc.

Im still hoping to find out a bit more about James Gallacher! I've had to re register under a similar name as my old email address is no longer available to me and with the change of computer my password had gone too.
James may have been a visitor to the Caledonian Club in London, or keen on Scottish Dance. He could possibly have been in the Battersea area, but certainly in London.
I have no further information sadly. Yes, he is likely to be my dad, and should know I exist to some degree, but had left the scene before my birth in May 1955. He knew I was on the way, but he didnt stay for whatever reason. My birth mother believed he had rejoined the Navy and had gone abroad. Her name was Dorothy. He was born around 1928 in Scotland.
Many thanks.

Hi Missmygenealogy
I know you said you were not seeking new family but if this was me I would think about doing a Dna match just to maybe narrow down an area for your search as you probably already know James Gallacher is a very common name in Scotland

Thank you for your reply Elaine. I have done my own dna some years ago, I didn’t notice anything obvious, but may not have known what to look for! I have no male genetic relatives so can amongst the results, and can only rely on my own (female) DNA. I’ll have another look, but the matches and names didn’t look promising…..

Thats a shame but you never know a lot more people are doing Dna now so hopefully someone will come up with a match for you
Good luck
