Title: Stuck in my tracing roots- can anyone help please?
Post by: dellfrog on Monday 31 December 12 13:31 GMT (UK)
HI
I have traced my ancestor to a George Henry Mott died 26th June 1909 married Mary Catherine
Quill (De Longford ) born Killarney Ireland 1840. On 15th October 1859 Islington  London 4B page 431 last quarter. the  marriage certificate gives father as William Mott. The 1861 Census gives a George Henry Mott and Mary Mott at 63 Beresford Street Newington with a baby Mary who died 1862. The marriage certificate gives George Henry Mott address as 4 Portland Place . It gave Mary Quill address as 3 Barnsbury Place.
I cannot crack Mother and Father of George Henry Mott and neither can I track the couple  in 1871 census records ( 1961 and 1881 OK) along with children Sarah 1865, William H. 1867 and Agnes G 1871.
Any help would be appreciated - happy new Year to all
Derek Mott

Derek, how old was George when he married Mary? And what were George and William's occupations?

I think the witness names are Emmeline Novemia Mott and Sarah Pond Bird?

On the marriage cert both George and his dad William were warehousemen.

So that would make Emmeline step-mother to George Henry?

In 1851 there is an 11 year old George Mott born London at a school in South Mimms.

He was born in 1840 so she's his mum surely?

He was born in Knightsbridge in 1840 - but can't see the family in 1841 can you?
With a name like Emmeline she should be easy to find  ;D

Is that the Lambeth family?

If so, I don't think it's them as there is an Emma and 'our ' family have an Emmeline b Islington 1849. Not convinced anyway.

I don't think the Lambeth family is very likely either. William, Emma and George all baptised together and the father down as a gold and silver papermaker.

::) You could be right but it is hard to tell.

HO107 piece 732 folio 13 page 18

William 30 no (edited)
Emma 23 yes
George 1 yes

Anyhow, it would be best to get the birth certificate to be sure of the parents and that might help with an address.

PS The school entry in 1851 has a possible younger brother Charles - could be Charles Frederick, does that fit family info?
