hello spruso
in case you are not aware there is a free search site rootschat.com and if you input the name agates from 1851 to say 1860 you will find entries there.
i don't know if you have been limiting your census search to london/middlesex, if you have then on whatever site you are using select all counties and you may have more success.
freeukgen.org, familysearch.org and censusfinder.com are three sites you can try.
i'm sure that rootschatters will be doing a lookup in the meantime so don't be disheartened.

Can you tell us where they sit in your family history as that can sometimes be helpful in locating people

James Constable was Janes father. He appears in the 1841 Census under the surname "Cunslalle" living at Carshalton. Jane Agates is the daughter of James' from his first marriage. James' first wife, also called Jane (Surname unknown), died about 1849 and he remarried to Elizabeth Richards at St.Dunstans Stepney 19 May 1850 .
James was an elder brother of John Constable who was my direct ancestor.
John was born 19 Mar 1817 at Beddington Surrey and married Louisa Harding at Carshalton on 25 Dec 1837.
John's parents were William Constable and Letitia. (Surname unknown) Letitia died at carshalton 6 Dec 1849.
Let me know if you need more
Cheers
