Title: The Allard's of Wetheringsett Cum Brockford

I have, and others also, been trying to break down a 'Proverbial Brick Wall' found in Wetheringsett in 1733 for the last eleven (11) years. Is anyone able to assist, we are trying to establish the parents of James Allwood (variation of Allard) who was married to Mary Potter at the church of All Saints on the 17th May 1733. The register states: James Allwood of this parish, single man and Mary Potter. of this parish, single woman, Married 17th of May 1773, by Rayner Bellman (Curate). In the presence of Thomas Quinton and John Sheppard. Interestingly James and John Sheppard signed their names (educated) Mary and Thomas made their mark. Sheppard was the Parish Clerk.
Their Banns were read out on 5th, 12th and 18th of May 1773. Is anyone able to assist in helping us break down this wall and identyfying James parents in order to go further back in the Family History of the Allards.

Not quite sure how Sue ! neither names mean anything and the only similarity is the year 1733. How did you feel that it may have assisted?

Always good to think out of the box as they say Sue, but sadly nothing in this case. What amazes me is that they were 'Both of the Parish', so there surely has to be something somewhere. Thanks though Sue it was appreciated.

Just read your post I lived in Wetheringsett for a couple of years in the old almshouses (poorhouse) which were poor workhouses in the 1700s opposite the graveyard.  If the wedding you mention was signed with a mark as they were not educated it is possible they also lived in the poorhouse and were orphaned possibly. It is just a possibility why you can not find parents.
