Title: PLUMSTEAD CEMETERY 1952

I have just been looking at the 1952 burial register for an ancestor buried at Plumstead Cemetery. Under the place of burial grave entry information in the register there is an annotation of "3rd Class". Would ROOTSCHAT members know what this signifies?

I have read that it refers to the class of the plot in the graveyard.  First class were very much private graves for those who could afford them as evident when walking round cemeteries.  I think 2nd class were, as first class, smaller plots for a few people but not specific to members of one family.  I'd suggest that third class were a bit down from that but perhaps not "public" graves which held quite a number of unrelated people often in double figures.
