The code on the page expires on 2nd January, so be quick 8)

5 credits for normal bmd and census transcripts of an entry. Some other records cost 10, 15, and a few cost 20 credits.
So it's ten basic searches and a look at the transcripts. Not bad. Roughly £6 worth of research.
Thanks Nick. :D :D 8)
-
Thanks Nick, every freebie helps!
ladybird - they are valid for 90 days (its the code that expires sooner) so no hurry to use them.

Thank you Nick, a nice Christmas present ;)
Pat
-
Thank you very much!
-
Thanks for letting us know about this, Nick! :-*
-
I'd found this from another source and signed up. I haven't used FindMyPast for quite a while, there hadn't been any records I was interested in that I couldn't get from another source. However, I thought I'd have a look to see what they have now and came across the Welsh Special Collection. As a result I found the baptism of my 3 x gt grandfather and therefore the names of my 4 x gt grandparents. I'm very pleased with the result, despite the fact that their names are so common in Wales that I think I'll have ground to a halt again! ;)
-
10 pages from the newspaper database I suppose
It will put off for a little longer the next short term sub I will take out on the BNA
-
Cheers Nick ;)
-
....and as an additional Christmas Present, 40 more free credits too:

Can someone tell me .......? If I sign up for them all, will they add up together and wait until I'm ready to use, probably after christmas? Yep just did it and they add up. Now got 90 credits.
Thanks again.

Thanks Nick, thats a nice little Xmas gift
At the expense of those of us who pay our subs every year and can't get on to the site when all the cheapskates are using it for free :D :D
Merry Christmas to you all. ;) ;)
Trystan when've you got a spare few minutes, ha ha, could you find a "tongue in cheek" smilie please?
-
Brilliant just found the newspaper article I was after...ggg/grandda selling a house ;D All grist for the mill
Merry Christmas one and all XXXX
-
LizW I am sorry you feel that way. But some of us can not afford to have a subcription to these sites and it is a chance to search for records. If and when I can afford to I will have a subcription.
Cheers

I was able to get in yesterday but it must be too busy today 50 credits was a lovely unexpected Christmas gift now I have to figure out who to search for ::)
-
Tried it this morning - worked fine. Used up all my credits trying to find something new about my g.g. grandfather. Found nothing new.
Glad it has helped some RC'ers :)

-
Thank you for starting this thread and alerting us to the available credits.
I Finally got logged on to 'Findmypast' after 9 hours yesterday.
Now my Balance is boosted by a further 90 credits.
Not sure if I will have to use these within the 90 days, as they have been added to my PayAsYouGo Credits which I have purchased previously for one year.
Thanks again everyone,
Wishing All RootsChat Members A Happy Christmas and a Very Happy New Year.
Jeanette H.

When I enter this: LCXMASFREE I am told that the promotional code does not apply.
I have 2 accounts with FindMyPast on two email addresses, and I can't get into either of them with the SNOWFLAKE code. I was able to activate the code for one of the accounts a couple of days ago, I used some credits searching a couple of things, saved a couple, but it seems I can't use the remainder or log into the other account. I also have no saved records. :-\ Does anyone have any ideas?
Whereabouts does it tell me how many credits I have left?
I will keep fiddling with it. :(
-
Hi Ruskie,
If you go to (My Account) at the top of the page it should show you how many credits you have left for that account.
I followed the link in Nick's post to claim 50 free credits yesterday - signing in with my FindMyPast account, however I don't seem to had these credits added to my existing ones.
Today I thought I would sign up with another of my email addresses, and claim the 50 free credits.
This is the message I get......
Unfortunately, you are not eligible for this offer. This is either because the offer code has expired, or because you, or someone who uses your computer or shares your email account, has already activated this particular offer code.
Don't know why they could not give their loyal customers 50 credits on their balance.
Think I will give up trying. ::)

You may need to use the correct links to get the free credits, with the SNOWFLAKE use the link on the original post, and for LCXMASFREE use the link on the latest LostCousins newsletter
http://www.lostcousins.com/newsletters/dec12news.htm (http://www.lostcousins.com/newsletters/dec12news.htm)

Er ... that one gives 10% off subscriptions to FindMyPast.
This http://lostcousins.com/newsletters/xmas12news.htm (http://lostcousins.com/newsletters/xmas12news.htm) gives the link for 50 more free credits.
:)
-
Hi koromo
Thanks for correcting that, I don't seem to have had that new newsletter yet, I got the credits by googling the code plus findmypast,
Andy

Hello RootsChatters,
Thank you to mfcnt (CASS) for posting another link.
I had no problem in collecting another 50 credits.
Looks like we will be very busy over the next few months, delving into our research.
I just went to Google (via Firefox) - typed in findmypast,
Signed into my account,
Went to Home Page,
Clicked on original link for - 50 free Credits (the one used for the Family Tree Week credits), which I used for the first 50 free credits.
Clicked on - Read More (for the 26th Dec. 2012)
Then clicked on - Claim Your Credits Now.
Then I typed in - the New Code, in the Box Provided.
The Credits were added to my total straight away.
It would appear that perhaps we are only able to claim for one account
from each individual Computer.
Hope this helps,
Jeanette H.
-
Thanks to all who tried to help me. I will have another go. I'm glad I am not the only one who is having problems with this Sarra. :)

Amazingly, that worked!!! :D
I am not sure how it works with more than one account on the same computer - I originally made two when they were giving away credits during some football games or other. I was able to use the two accounts then.
-
Don't know why they could not give their loyal customers 50 credits on their balance.
My thoughts exactly. They keep giving away all these freebies, but what about their regular subscribers. I know they give us a discount when we re-subscribe but I think each time they give away free credits, they should extend our subscription period, especially as each time the free credits are handed out, the loyal subscribers can't access FindMyPast because of all the people taking advantage of free credits.
-
the loyal subscribers can't access FindMyPast because of all the people taking advantage of free credits.
There's the spirit of Christmas eh?!! ;)
-
I do not think FindMyPast are are favouring non subscribers, I think it is to try to swell there membership?.
Also there is surely nothing to stop a "Loyal Subscriber" collecting the free credits also ;D
-
I have been a "Loyal Subscriber" for the past 5 years and still got my 50 free credits. :) :)
Trish :)
-
Exactly my point Trish, I have a pay as you go subscription to F.M.P and have often used it to find information when I have been able to answer rootschatters questions who do not use FindMyPast. If it helps people to gain information then that is all to the good. ;)
-
I have been a "Loyal Subscriber" for the past 5 years and still got my 50 free credits.
Yes, but you still have to renew your sub at the same time. I've got 4 credits from the time FindMyPast used to give you credits if you pointed out a mistranscription, but what can I do with them. Everytime I click on something that needs credits, I don't have to use credits because I subscribe, so the credits just sit there.
Anyway, as everyone disagrees with my point of view I'll shut up now.
-
No I didn't have to renew my subs at the same time, my subs are for renewal in Jan 2013 & I have a choice if I wish to renew or not, my choice will be to renew as I can find lots of things on FindMyPast that I can't find on Ancestry, especially mis-transcribed census records.
Trish :)
-
Hi All,
I used my second email address and the LCXMASFREE (Code) and it was accepted, so now I have my 50 free credits to FindMyPast.
I won't try and work out what happened with the 'SNOWFLAKE' code one.
That's the word I was trying to get in my head yesterday 'Loyal Subscriber' . :)
Thank you....
Sarra
-
It's all quite mysterious.
I did get my credits on both accounts using the SNOWFLAKE code, (used up a couple of credits on one account and saved my searches) but can find neither of them now, nor can I find my saved searches. It doesn't really matter as they were not important, but it's just a bit frustrating.
When I go to my account I can only see the 50 credits I got using the LCXMASFREE code.
Maybe I need to log out then log back in again? I will try that ...
Added: OK, that seems to have worked. I have found my remaining credits on my other account, as well as my saved searches. It will not allow me to add the LCXMASFREE credits to this. Mystery solved anyway. It looks like only one account per freebie on the one computer. ;)
-
Found a couple of possibly useful Welsh Parish Records ..... then accidentally lost 10 credits by clicking on the next page.
I am used to Scotland's People who ask if you wish to use a number of credits to view a particular record.
So, I wasn't too thrilled about that - I had even considered perhaps buying some credits as some of the PRs looked interesting, but I don't think I will now. :(
I also don't like the fact that there is no way to add parent's names when searching for baptisms (as you can do in SP).
-
Thanks to all of you who volunteered the information about various free credits options. I managed to acquire them all eventually.
I am gradually finding my way around the new site. ::)
Judy
-
Wow! Thanks all you lovely RootsChatters.
Just claimed 140 free credits - how awesome is that!
Hope you all had a great Christmas -
I know what I'll be doing in the New Year.
;)
-
140! :o
-
I also clicked on a link through Facebook that gives 50 free credits using the code SNOWMAN.
-
Thanks guys
I had the same problems as most folk with the snowflake code, thought it was just me, anyway thanks for the helpful info on this topic ;)
-
Wow! I just used snowman and it worked!
This has been brilliant. Thanks folks!
-
Me too, just got the extra credits from the Snowman! Fantastic! :)
-
Wow!!! Same here, many thanks from me. :)
-
The SNOWMAN also worked for me, this has been a wonderful gift,
Cass
-
nearly missed the snowman one as it was so similar to snowflake
Thanks

Hello RootsChatters,
I have just collected another 40 Credits, using the following code - FMPTV2, which I have just come across. Expires 11th January 2013.
Good Luck.
Jeanette H.
-
Thanks
Thats two more lots - I have 180 now having used the first 50 credits
-
That's even more. This is great!!
-
WOO, what a gift. Thanks everyone. I think I've had all the ones so far. Excellent.
-
A very big thankyou to everyone who posted all the free credits tips on the previous pages.
I didn't think I would be able to use them all but I have just put in all the codes one after the other and have loaded up 230 credits :o WOW !
I'm about to lock myself away from the family and have a little me time with the departed ;D.
Thanks to you all
Cheers

And they last for 90 days. :) :D :D
thanks again to everyone.

Hi Jeanette
FindMyPast is saying FMPTV2 code is not a valid code - did you just go into FindMyPast and go to Subscribe and enter the code, or do it through some other way?
Thanks
-
Just used the FMPTV2 code, Stunning, thankyou so much. :) :) :)

I think you have to do it through the ad on the right hand side of the home page, that tells you that you can get 50 free credits.
I have got one lot of 50 credits then two lots of 40 ... nothing like 230! :o I can't get the same credits on my two accounts as I get the message saying that they have already been claimed etc. The additional credits are a nice bonus considering I lost 10 unintentionally. ;)
-
I put in all these code which I had gleened from the previous posts, going back to Nicks original link each time.

Just found out that FindMyPast have a 10% discount offered on their website for subscriptions - this also works with partial subscriptions (ie upgrading to World).
However, you may want to take a look at this webpage for 20% off:-
http://www.eyfhs.org.uk/Sheila/ (http://www.eyfhs.org.uk/Sheila/)
Expires midnight on the 13th!

FindMyPast.ie is giving away 50 credits until 31st.

Tks for this but I tried to retrieve the 50 free credits on findmypast.ie and it says that "it has already been activated". I only had 20 credits left and it must have been from the time before. Oooops! ::)
Sorry I thought it was an additional offer.

I got this ok but have very few Irish and no direct ancestors
