Title: Birmingham 1861 Census
Post by: wolfie58 on Sunday 16 December 12 21:10 GMT (UK)
Im looking for an entry in 1861census for Birmingham of my 2nd Great Grandfather John Patrick or Patrick John Flanagan born Roscommon c1830. He was a Straw Mattress Maker and was known to have lived in Birmingham around 1858 and had businesses in Freeman Street and Aston Street during that time. I can't find any information on him until a mention in 1871 census for Dudley where he was a lodger in Cromwell Street. Shortly after that time he was founder and owner of Flanagans Mattress and Bed Company in Stone Street, Dudley.
I believe between 1858 and 1871 he was married, but as yet have not been able to find the correct marriage. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Jon

Hi Wolfie I have done this search for John Flanagan before, was it yourself?, as I have found him as John b c 1829, with brother Michael b c 1831 and sister Lydia b c 1835 all born Roscommon in Birmingham 1851 census John and Michael are both Mattress Makers, in 1861 taking their ages into account would it not be likely that they were both serving in the Army? The census ref for 1851 is HO107/2052/509/12
