My grandfather was George Dodds - also known as George Singlewood Dodds. He was born in County Durham in 1881/1882 & served in WW1; I would like to find out about his military record as all I have is a photograph of him on a horse which was pulling a gun carriage; I think he may have served in the DLI or Northumberland Hussars but he would never speak of his war experiences so I have little to go on.
Can anyone interested in military history suggest how to fing records?
Many thanks, Lizzieann

The photo you describe makes it seem much more likely that he was in the RHA - Royal Horse Artillery.
His army records not amongst those that survived.
