Scarrott / Livermore Family (Romany) Eastwood
« on: Today at 20:20:33 »
Hello, I am desperate to try and find some information on the Scarrott family of which I am a relative of, so far, I have Emmanualle Scarrott Snr and Helen Scarrott (could be brooks) who gave birth to Sarah Scarrott (my nans mother) in 1901 who died Nov 25 1986 in Eastwood who married Stephen Livermore 1901-1975 died Eastwood 18th November 1975, Emmanualle also gave birth to Alfie Scarrott, Emmanualle JR, Elijah, Matilda, Sylvia and Nelson. Stephen Livermore and Sarah Scarrott (Livermore) gave birth to my nan Matilda Shelley, I am dying to find out more about this part of my family, I seem to have hit a brick wall and know absolutely nothing about them, and certainly nothing about the Romani Part of it?
Unfortunately my mums cousin Charles (Chebbie) Smith took all th information to his grave :-( also the names, Lamb, Bibby, Stone and Smith are in the family tree somewhere along the line? :-S
Any help whatsoever would be so appreciated
Thanks,
Lisa

Hello
I have started looking at the Scarrott family and getting some dates.
FreeBMD has this birth as 1900 not 1901
Births Sep 1/4 1900
Sarah Florence Scarratt Stoke T. (Staffordshire) vol 6b page 206
Her marriage
Sarah Scarratt to Stephen Livermore September 1/4 1921 Rochford (Essex) vol 4a page 1783.
Births Mar 1/4 1907
Nelson Scarratt Rochford vol 4a page 709
Now I have a timeframe to work from. :) Sarah should be in the 1901 census.

Well the 1901 puts the Smiths and Scarra(i)tts together. In the Occupation column it is headed Gypsies and no birthplaces have been filled in.

When searching on freebmd.org and other sites it is best if you put the surname in as Scarr*tt so you get results with any of the vowels between the r and t :)
Having said that I can't see a marriage for Ellen and Em*an*uel c prior to the birth of their son Emmanuel who is 3 in 1901.
There is a marriage in 1907 with an Ellen Brookes and an Emmanuel Scarrett on the same page but whether they married each other only the 1911 census would say.
-
I can't find Emmanuel and Ellen in 1891 but I did find this 1871 census which I think could be Emmanuel with his parents

Sophia Scarrott 40 hawker where born Not Known

Emanuel Scarrott 12 son born kent
Alfred Scarrott 10 son Born Barnes surrey
Eliza Scarrott 4 dau born Kent
William Scarrott 2 Born Chiswick
freebmd.org on same page
Marriages Sep 1/4 1882
Frederick Scarrott and Sophia Smith registered at Staines vol 3a page 3
If this is the marriage of the above Fredk and Sophia then it came a while after the birth of their children.

Oh thank you so much, maybe I am a year out in the birth date then, and perhaps it is Ellen Brookes as apposed to Helen, I know have some more to go by, thanks so so much :0)
-
Oh I've been told that it's definitely Helen, not Ellen? X
-
It is easy to mistake Ellen for Helen and vice versa. No Helen shows up in the censuses.

Emmanuel and his brother Alfred married two Brookes sisters, Ellen and Amelia - I am sure one of their descendents comes on here - if not I will try and find her and put her in touch. Emmanuel and Alfred were my gt grandmother Conceletta Scarrotts cousins. Their grandparents are John Scarrott and Sarah nee Dore from Ramsden Oxfordshire-there is quite a lot on them in various threads on here.

Excellent thank you!! I am off to my nans this weekend where I will do some more digging about Alfred and Amelia, It's like trying to get blood out of a stone unfortunately haha, but now I have more info that will be a great help, I'm slowly getting further back which is of massive interest to me, thank you so much for your help x

There are 63 posts on Rootschat with the name Scarrott in them and some have Lamb as well - I haven't read them all :D
To find them click on Search in the bar at the top of the page (with the green leaf next to it)
On the search page just enter Scarrott in the name panel, delete the * in the "by user" space and just click on enter. Give it time to load them all.
Better make a cuppa before you start :)

I do have some photos of them, but they were given to me by the descendent and obviously need to ask her permission before I pass them on. The 1871 census is of Emanuel and Alfred with their parents Frederick Scarrott and Sophia nee Smith. Frederick was the son of John Scarrott and Sarah nee Dore. Johns parents William Scarrott and Margaret nee Whitehouse. Member KOTG has done some excellent transcribing on the Scarrott threads. Will try and put you in touch with descendent, unfortunately I look after my elderly father with Alzheimers and havent had much time for family history the last couple of years and havent been in touch for the last year.
