Hello, all records we have seen for Rose say Parents Unknown although Rose states she was born Bathurst, New South Wales, Australia [was that her earliest memory?] Her mother died in childbirth.
>>>I wonder is there a death record for Amy MacRae in 1884.
1881 a William MacRae marries in Patrick Plains, New South Wales, Australia to Amy Hedges. Patrick Plains is just 300km [190miles] from Bathurst, New South Wales.
The dau of Rose is named Amye.

I'm confused.
If Rose (who has no surname?) has parents unknown, how do you know her mother died in childbirth.
Is Amy her mother? If so, why do we have 'parents unknown'?
Do you have evidence of when Rose was born? Was it 1884 which is why you think Amy (presuming she's Rose's mother) died then? How sure are you of that date?
Another suggestion. Rose was adopted and told her mother died in childbirth.
Rose's birth certificate should answer some of these questions. If you don't have it, you can get a transcript for less $$ than an actual certificate - details under Australian resources. However, if she was adopted the b.c. will probably be in another name - conundrum!
Patrick Plains is the former name for the Singleton area, north of Maitland.
While it may be 300km from Bathurst on the map, not exactly a Sunday afternoon drive especially in 1880s.
Can't pick up anything on NSW BDM 1880-1890 in births or deaths for Rose or Amy. Have you looked in Victoria or Queensland?

Hi,
The NSW BDM has the marriage registration as Amy Hedges in 1881.
A family tree suggests that her name was Mary Ann Hedges, same marriage details (Amy) and she died in 1938 at Rockdale Sydney, 15081/1938.

There are two other posts on this family, from Anykey.
I have asked a moderator if they can all be amalgamated which might answer some questions but also save us looking for stuff which has already been found!

Hi,
This article gives Roses' son surname as PATTERSON:

At the moment anykey has 3 or 4 threads running about the life of ROSE MCRAE.
Each of these is duplicating the information on another which makes a clear picture very difficult.
It may be best if the threads were merged.

Hi there,
I am sorry that I am unable to help with this thread at the moment, due to some very pressing family matters. However, I have had a quick look at the NSW Electoral Roll for 1903 ..... yes, several decades after 1884. Perhaps the following info may be of help, or alas it may be a distraction.
NSW ER 1903 MACQUARIE, polling at Bathurst
McRAE, Alexander James, a clerk of William Street. NO others with that surname were enrolled to vote at that polling place. Within that electorate there were many other polling places. 1903 NSW ER includes males and females aged 21 years and over. It was NOT compulsory to enrol.
It could well be the middle of January 2013 before I am able to find the spare moments to help further with this search.
Cheers, JM (NSW centric).

Just quickly,
I wonder if the following registrations have been considered. These two deaths were registered for the Bathurst district. I think you will find that the NSW BDM’s online INDEX was first transcribed in the 1930s from the ledgers held by the Sydney HO of BDM. It is possible those Sydney ledgers were prepared by Sydney based clerks, based on those clerks reading of the longhand script of the NSW BDM’s deputy register at Bathurst. It is possible that the 1880s registrations were recorded by the deputy registrars based on ORAL answers given to questions posed by the deputy registrars. Many surnames have been mashed up by that then protocol. :(
Mary M MACKEY, 1883, #5568
Florence MACKAY, 1885 #7111

Surely if ROSE had named her daughter after her mother she clearly knew her mothers name but seemed not to at the time of her marriage.

The dau of Rose is named Amye.
NZ Birth
1911 - BELHAMINE - Amy*
Parents : Rose and Joseph Kerthor BELHAMINE
[* Later (NZ) records show Amy as "Amye" and "Amye Elizabeth Alice" ]
Two trees on 'ancestry' website record that Joseph K. BELHAMINE, had sisters named "Amy Elizabeth" and "Alice".
Perhaps then Amye was named for her aunts ....her father's sisters ???

Hi Lucy2
Births deaths and marriages of ROSE and her wider connections have been closely examined across the three or four threads both in Australia and NZ.
Despite the fact she/he has been online in the last day or two, Anykey has not chosen to respond to the efforts of helpers.
I, for one, can only hope that the information has been of assistance and wish her well in her searches.
