hello i am stuck i have a john ingram b 1778 d 1845 m ellen oakes his mother is given as mary ingram b ashton father not known believed he denied paternity have no birth record for mary or her parents i did find 2 records one for a james ingram born ashton.and the other william ingram b glasgow not sure if any are the parent. thank you.

there is also a Henry having children buried at this church

i have a marriage record of john ingram and ellen oakes 18th aug 1805 wigan parish grooms parents not shown his birth mother is given as mary ingram born ashton i assume ashton under lyne.this is the last entry in my tree can go no further. need to persue the maternal line now but john prescot is cited as father. thanks again need to get over this hurdle. malcolm.

as you pointed out she was a spinster in her 80s so need her parents phoned aston church for any records but got nothing back, the only names i have come up with are james ingram & mary hadfield both born 1719 ashton under lyne, need confirmation that i have the right persons thankyou malcolm.

Yes I quite understand you want to know who her parents are,with comfirmation,and if it was there and I could find it, I would have given you the details,brick walls we all have, and so you have to keep chipping away,there are no further records relating to Mary and James at this church after their marriage on Lancashire opc,so have you looked to see if they have other children in another parish that may help you to link them back to your ancestors,
Mary Hadfield and James did indeed marry 1739 Ashton under Lyne
but it doesnt mean your Mary who has her children baptised Ashton in Makerfield,two totaly different places,is the same person you are looking for, they may have been related,keep looking,
