Hi
I am looking for any Irish details on the family of Peter Hoobin and Bridget Cunniffe. From my information Peter married Bridget, date unknown, but was around 1840's - 1850's and they lived in Galway.
Bridget migrated to South Australia with her 8 children. There was a large family of Hoobin's that were living in South Australia at the time, so there might be a connection between the two families but i can not find it. The family then moved to Melbourne Victoria where they entered the hotel business. It does not appear that John senior went with them to South Australia or Victoria from what I can find.
* Bridget Mother - Migrated 1885 ship Ashmore (born abt 1825)
* Peter - Migrated 1879 ship Holmsdale (born abt 1851)
* Bridget - Migrated 1885 ship Ashmore
* Patrick- Migrated 1881 ship Stirlingshire (born abt 1863)
* Bartholomew- Migrated 1882 ship Corona
* Thomas- Migrated 1885 ship Ashmore
* John - Migrated 1881 ship Stirlingshire (born abt 1858)
* Mary - Migrated 1882 ship Corona (born abt 1866)
* Anne- Migrated 1885 ship Ashmore
I have seen so many variations of the spelling of the surnames, and the birth dates quoted on various records (death certs, passenger records etc) are generally inconsistent. All the children listed above are listed on Bridget's 1914 death certificate.
Any help appreciated.
Cheers

Hi there,
There are a few references to this family on familysearch.....
Birth of Thomas in 1868
Birth of daughter Anne in 1876
They are mentioned as being from 'Rahern' Gort Galway
On the 1901 census there are just a few with this surname in this townland which has been spelt differently.

Hi Shane
My Maternal Grandfather was John HOOBIN, son of Peter HOOBIN & Nora MOLONEY.
He married Marie TOGNO
Peter was the second child of Peter HOOBIN & Bridt Quiniff.
I have only been researching Family History for a few years, and have found HOOBIN families in both Victoria & South Australia. Both families have sons with the same Christian names. The Victorian Family originally arrived in South Australia, prior to travelling to Victoria, but I have not yet found a connection between the two. I assume they are related.
I have not been able to find Peter (Snr) arriving in Australia, so assume that he may have died in Ireland, and hence the reason for the family immigrating.
I live in Melbourne, Victoria
Cheers
