Title: McFall/McFaul family, Carrickfergus, Co.Antrim
Post by: Jennie-k on Tuesday 11 December 12 21:26 GMT (UK)
Searching for information on Andrew McFall/McFaul, age 21, a tailor, and Sarah Shannon age 19.  They were married in St. Nicholas Church of Ireland, Carrickfergus in 1871.  He was the son of Patrick McFall/McFaul, a tailor of Carrickfergus. She was the daughter of James Shannon of Gleno, near Larne.  Any information greatly appreciated!

Daughter Jane born in Scotland 1872 so perhaps they moved there shortly after marriage?

Thank you, that is the same family, Sarah had an older sister living in Scotland, so looks like they went there after their marriage.  Then I found a birth of a son, James on 1st Aug 1875 at Carneal, Raloo which is near Gleno, so they had returned here. But I have the feeling they did eventually went back to Scotland. Is there a census for 1881 or 91 that I could look.

Unfortunately the 1881 and 1891 census for Ireland does not survive. First complete census is 1901.

Sorry, I meant the Scottish Census!  Have already looked our 1901 and couldn't find any trace of them.

Could this not be widowed Andrew in 1901 and 1911 (if so, the stated ages and places of birth for the children would suggest they largely stayed in Ireland)?

There's a widowed Andrew McFall, son of Patrick, who married a Jane Templeton in Raloo in 1881, is it a possibility that Sarah died, then Andrew remarried Jane who also died (after having the children in the census records)?

Speculative, but maybe worth banking until you can rule in or out.

Thank you Gaffy, will have to look into this info.  If could indeed be the same Andrew McFall. Will have to see if I can find Sarah's death. I don't really have much to go on, so any help is appreciated!  :)

Hi Gaffy, do you know if the marriage in Raloo Presbyterian gave Andrew's occupation?   Thanks. :)

Thanks Gaffy, I will see if I can find out.  Just want to know if he is the same person, although it sounds like it. Must try and find out when Sarah (Shannon) McFall died.
