Title: Perthshire Place - Miffee
Post by: cassmob on Monday 10 December 12 07:11 GMT (UK)
Hi, I'm trying to identify a birth place for Daniel (Aka Donald) McDonald. on the 1851 census he lists his place of birth as Perthshire Miffee. At least that's what I think it is, and indexing on Find My Past and Ancestry agree.

Does anyone have any idea what town/village might sound like that?

Any help is much appreciated.

Hi

FreeCen has transcribed his birth as Perth - Methven (Originally: Perth - Miffer) There is a Donald McDonald christened Methven 10th March 1793 (Familysearch.org) father Donald McDonald, no mother named but there are quite a number of Daniel/Donald McDonald born around 1793 in Perthshire

If Daniel lived until 1855 then his death registration should have his parents names.

Thanks Andy! I didn't look at FreeCen for 1851 though I did for 1841. Sadly he died in Nov 1854...just months before the goldmine of an 1855 census. Thanks for your comment.

We believe that we are descended from this Donald/Daniel McDonald also, via his son Peter.  Would love to exchange information with you.
