-
No you are not going mad BBC have perspired it to 12 December
Regards panda
-
Thank you - why was it postponed do you know ?
N
-
i think it was because they postponed celia imrie for a week and now they have run out of schedule time. ... nancy
-
Yes, they could not postpone Michael Palin's (excellent) new series 'Brazil' for a week because we're now only 8 weeks from Christmas (eek) :o
-
Have I missed 'Who do you think you are' with John Bishop?
I watch it every week but did not see John Bishop.

Thanks Panda.
I would hate to miss it.

thanks for that ;)

The postponed episode from the recent series is on Thursday BBC1 9pm. From the link it features an ancestor in the Crimean Wars - think that's new ground for the series:

(Sorry if there's an existing thread which I haven't found.)

Here's hoping they've saved the best till last! :D
Suey
ps don't you just love the way this little smilies eyeballs wobble :D ;D

I really enjoyed this one, a lot of interesting information and the programme covered a lot of ground in the time. I thought John Bishop seemed very natural too.

Completed the series on a high. Most enjoyable episode of the series in my opinion. Worth the wait.
-
Best one yet, even the OH enjoyed it and that's saying something.
Regards panda :D :D :D

That was more like it! Some interesting records. :)
-
I also agree with all that`s been said. It was far more interesting than the rest of this last series that I have watched.

It was interesting the bizarre changes of direction of Charles Bishop's career
-
Nothing like what I thought it was going to be.
Still I thought it was a good one and interesting about the career of Charles Bishop. Gives me hope to find out more about my musician soldier who became an exciseman
-
Fascinating stuff, lots of unexpected twists - unexpected to the viewer as well as to John Bishop. Good to see the various record sources in action.
-
Definitely saved the best till last. Thoroughly enjoyed it.

BBC saved the best 'til last! :D Quite fascinating.
Brilliant - and John Bishop was genuinely pleased with what he found out about his ancestors.
-
:)really enjoyed it very interesting
-
Enjoyed this episode.
They picked the most interesting relatives.
I wonder if John will "do" the rest of his family history.
I did wonder where Charles found the money to get out of the army.
Sandra ???

Best of the lot, and made so much nicer by John Bishop who seemed genuinely interested, and engaged.
-
I will never see John Bishop in the same light again :)
Very interesting show.
-
Great episode. John's mother's side is all Irish roots but the English paternal line had the better stories apparently.

Seems we're unanimous as I also thoroughly enjoyed this. A good variety of sources & places, mostly new to the series as well.
-
A nice man, genuinely interested and touched by the discoveries. His interaction made it a most enjoyable episode for me.
-
much better than the tour the archives and trips to foreign parts many of the other episodes provided
-
Really enjoyed it too - even if I did have a little grumble at the start to Mr Spidermonkey when John seemed to leap to the conclusion that the Canadian marriage record must be the right one ;)
-
This was very good!
Hope the Irish maternal side can be investigated sometime :D

I had a go at the maternal line last night also double checked with online trees. Surnames include Hackett, Mulrooney, Moran, Campbell and Doyle. I think there's Irish on his father's side too. Apart from Catherine Evitt there's Kelly and Greer from Dublin on Frederick Bishop's wife's side of the family.

Just watched John Bishop on Loose Women.
He was pleased that his father had found the unmarked grave of his gt gt gr father and they were going to erect a headstone. :)

John Bishop was on television today saying that his father has located the grave of Charles Bishop since they filmed the episode and that the family are now going to place a headstone on the grave as it has not got one at the present.

crossed posts Kooky...snap....saw him on there as well but from now on I will only think of JB as "Fanny man John Bishop" ;D ;D

Charles was buried at Toxteth Park Cemetery on 29 Aug 1899.

Thoroughly enjoyed it. I assume he found his g.g.grandfather's marriage in Canada, on Ancestry Worldwide.
-
I think this was the best I've seen, I loved it! and can't say any more than everyone has already said.
Thoroughly enjoyed it. I assume he found his g.g.grandfather's marriage in Canada, on Ancestry Worldwide.
I was just about to shout at the telly too but remembered that these programmes are filmed and edited in advance, so the record was probably researched before filming. :D

I found it very interesting other than the fact that my local record office did a sterling job. Well done Chichester.

Sorry, what I meant was when John Bishop typed in his ancestor's name, the screen didn't look like Ancestry UK and when he found the marriage details in Canada, he was able to look at a record showing his ancestor's rank in the army.
I agree it is all researched and then filmed, so it looks as though it is very easy just to type in a name and get lots of info.
-
I agree with the consensus here, it was a thoroughly absorbing episode covering issues we haven't seen before. It was interesting to see how Charles Bishop's life course echoed John's in many respects, John was fascinated by the similarities. I did wonder about Charles' wife and children though and where they figured in all the twists and turns of his life. But then again, as we've said before, the programme can't cover everything! All in all, a good one to end the series with! :)

Thanks for the link
Took the opportunity to go back and see WDYTYA Alistair McGowan again. It now seems to me that John McGowan and Maria De Cruz may have named their son after someone in her family. That name which I canot spell beginning with S sounds foreign! Sandra
