Dear all,
I'm not sure if anyone might be able to help with this. I'm just going over what I put together a couple of years ago and am double-checking on:
William Conway and Elizabeth.
They were based in St Luke's Finsbury from 1815 onwards (going by their children's baptism records). He was a glass paper maker, but that was about all I had on them. By the looks of it, they had two children baptised in 1815 (Sarah in April 1815 and William in May 1815 at St Andrews, Holborn.) Because the residence is given as Field Lane for both, I think it definitely has to be them, although I don't know why they would have two children baptised in two months! I have another five children for them after this.
I've just been looking on familysearch.org and have found one marriage record for a William Conway and Elizabeth (details below). This is also in 1815 but in a different church. I am thinking that they could be my William and Elizabeth but it seems odd to have two children baptised and get married in-between the two! (Not that I think it impossible - I've come across all sorts of weird arrangements in my family tree!) By the 1851 census, Elizabeth was widowed, although I haven't yet found a death record for William of which I can be certain.
I would like to be able to confirm whether the marriage record on familysearch.org is theirs. Would anybody be able to find a more detailed record perhaps showing the groom's occupation and their residence? Thank you in advance! Here are the details I found:
groom's name: William Conway
bride's name: Elizabeth Harwood
marriage date: 07 May 1815
marriage place: Parish Of Saint Clement Danes, Westminster, Middlesex, England
indexing project (batch) number: M01362-0
system origin: England-EASy
source film number: 1042306

Hi
Marriages pre 1st July 1837 do not have occupations given and if the couple were of the parish (for the three weeks needed before the marriage) it usually just states that or the parish they were from not street addresses.
St Clement Dane Westminster was to the west of the City of London. St Leonard Shoreditch was adjacent to the City and close to the parish the first baptisms appear in (one could very well have been a later baptism, one closer to the birth) and the parish where the later children were baptised.
27th March 1810 St Leonard Shoreditch
William Conway bachelor of the parish and Elisabeth Mills spinster of the parish by banns
William signed Elisabeth made her mark.
Witnesses Richard Conway signed by making his mark and George Limming who was a common witness to marriages at this church.
It is likely you may need further evidence beyond the information found in the marriages (presuming they were both born in the London area and didn't marry somewhere else before moving here) to establish which is the correct marriage.
Regards
Valda

Thank you for that info. It sounds like that could be a possible too - or more a probable. With the info I have there's no way of tying them to either wedding for definite but that's great for the back burner, in case I manage to get any more info.
I'm just looking at brick walls now - very frustrating!
Thank you!
