Title: Shipping passenger lists
Post by: Pilgrim1936 on Tuesday 27 November 12 08:59 GMT (UK)
I am trying to find the immigration details of my grandmother, Julia Marguerite Charley or Charlie.  She was born, as I understand it, in Killorglin, Co. Kerry, in 1871.  She married my grandfather in NSW on 9 November 1889, so obviously immigrated before then.  I have struck a brick wall in trying to uncover anything at all about this.  Can anyone please make any suggestions as to how I might discover how she came out.  She may have travelled through England, or may have come directly from Ireland.  I have no idea of the name of the ship(s) she travelled on, or whether she came alone or accompanied.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Many thanks.

It's more usual to find records of people arriving in a location, rather than for those leaving Ireland - so I think I'd start the search for immigration or passenger lists in Australian records.

Outward British passenger lists only start from 1890, so that confirms that your search needs to be in Australia rather than in Britain.

Thank you both for your help on this.  I'll investigate this end and see what I can uncover.
