Hi, I'm looking for ancestors of Andrew O. Vandeventer born about 1844 in Illinois. I can't find a birth record or census with his parents. Andrew married Susan Vance on 23 July 1873 in De Witt, Illinois.
Thank you,
jaxe

Hi Sandra, that was a very fast reply thanks.
Thank you for the links. I had come across those names in my searches but I can't find any records directly connecting them to my Andrew.
Thank you,
Jaxe

Oh do you think "Oatly" on the 1850 census might be Andrew?

Sorry I missed your message Priscilla. Thank you for Susan's burial page.

Thank you.
I wonder where the Oatha or Oatly name comes from?

The name doesn't seem to appear in the previous 2 generations of Jacob Vandeventer 1785 or Abraham Vandeventer 1753. Could be the Deffenbaugh line, haven't seen enough information on that one. ::)
Otha is a boys name - the meaning is "wealth"

Have you G*****d "Andrew Oatha Vandeventer" - you may well be surprised!

Perhaps it does come from the Deffenbaugh line - Could be a version of Otho ??? Mary Elizabeth had a brother Otho Deffenbaugh, Sr 1814 - 1888. Orth also had a son Otho Deffenbaugh Jnr 1845 - 1928
