Title: Patrick Carr, where did he go?
Post by: ourgang on Wednesday 21 November 12 00:08 GMT (UK)
I have hit a brick wall tracing Patrick Carr.
Christopher Carr of Avondale, Thomastown, Co Dublin married Eliz McGuinness at Ballybrack R.C Church on 4 Feb 1872. They had a son James 1872-1874 and Patrick born 4 March 1875 at Thomastown. Elizabeth died in 1876.
In 1901 census Patrick is living at Patrick St DunLaoghaire with wife Teresa, married 18 Sept 1893. In 1911 census they are at 7 Pembroke Row, Dublin.
I feel Patrick was left with the McGuinness family in 1876. His father appears to have married again to Susan Farrell about 1878 (cant find where, maybe Liverpool as he was from there) they had seven further children whose details I know. I cannot find death of Patrick or Teresa. I don't think they had any children.

A year later and i have got no further with Patrick Carr. I also cannot find a marriage for his father Christopher Carr to his second wife Susan Farrell. This must have taken place about 1878. My grandmother Mary Ellen Carr their first child was born in 1879 and i have traced all their other childrens births and deaths. In the 1911 census Christopher lists his place of birth as Liverpool and I  have a lead on his family through the Rootschat Lancashire site. Various members there gave me census leads and i am taking it that I have found his family in Liverpool.
I want to find out more about the Farrells. I don't know if they were from Ireland or Liverpool. Could be they never married and Susan just took Carr surname. They were R.C and I have tried all the church records in the Dun Laoghaire, Ballybrack, Glasthule area. They lived in Avondale which is present day Sallynoggin. Am i missing something obvious??

We all had to begin somewhere!

This looks like the birth in 1879 (https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/FGVQ-F2H) to Christopher and Susan in Dublin

Also from another site - there are baptisms in Dublin of
1879 Mary Ellen
1881 Catherine
1884 Bridget Anne
1888 Christopher
1890 Teresa
1893 James Joseph
If these names match your information to date then this could be Christopher on the 1901 census (http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Dublin/Kingstown/Avondale/1319797/) and in 1911 (http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Dublin/Kingstown_No__2/Avondale/93499/)

Online records for deaths only go up to 1958 so it"s possible they were still alive after that.

Also Carr is not a rare surname so you would have a lot of records to go through.

Tara - I have worked it out to be Murray - Civil Marraige Rathdown 1895 Jul-Sep V2 P794
although ourgang stated 1893 at the beginning

Have you ordered this death cert as a possiblity for Patrick - death in 1913 aged 35 (https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/FRVX-63D)

Then this marriage in 1918 could be Teresa remarrying (https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/FYF7-J57)

Thank you all so much for all this information. My Luck yes that is the Christopher Carr and I know all the children from his second marriage to Susan Farrell and now thanks to Tara I have details of Christopher and Susan's marriage in 1878.

Marg p...I never considered that Patrick and Teresa might have emigrated. Thanks for that tip.

Teresa's maiden name was Murray from Patrick's St. Dún Laoghaire and I must have put the incorrect date for the marriage...I got the marriage cert some time ago but, my records are on another computer so I cannot double check.

I will order that death Cert for Patrick for 1913 and the possible remarriage cert for Teresa.
We feel that Patrick must have been reared by his mother's family McGuinness as there was no knowledge of him in any of the family folklore. My mother was born in 1916 so if Patrick died in 1913 she would not have known about him.

Thank you all so much - you have given me a new spurt of life for the search.

A little bit of an update on Patrick Carr.

He was the one who died on 4 October 1913 - thanks again for the lead! and since finding that out I have tried to find out what happened to his wife Teresa. Yesterday I was able to search the Deansgrange Cemetery details which have been put up by Dún Laoghaire Rathdown County Council and found a grave in the North Section with Patrick and Teresa who died on 9 May 1942.

I never knew these people but am so happy to have found their resting place.

Thank you Dathai.

I have all details of the children of Christopher Carr's second marriage. Now that there are records of Deansgrange Cemetery to be studied I will be finding people buried in graves...and this will start me off on a new search.

Thank  you Kiltaglassan. Great to have her death details and her address at the time. Way back the Murrays lived in Powerscourt off Mount Street so she probably returned to live with a family member when she was ill.
